Microsoft has revealed the date when support for Windows 10 is going to end - effectively confirming that their original vision of Windows 10 being "the last Windows OS ever" is now dead. The information comes from Microsoft's own update to Windows 10's support life cycle page, which the company has amended with the final resting date set for October 14th 2025 for both Home and Pro versions of the operating system. Previously, the support life cycle page listed end of support dates for various release versions of Windows 10 - not the entire OS.

Adding this to the announcement that Windows would get a new, "next-gen" update; the related teaser art which omits the shadow of the window crossbar, making the cast shadow look either basically unrealistic (some Raytracing seems to be needed by Microsoft's art personnel) or, infinitely more likely, the omitted shadow serves to approximate the cast shadows as much as possible to 11. No official announcement by Microsoft, but usually 1 + 1 = 2.

Ugh, Win10 is still a mess yet they try to release another one... My home PC still works on Win7, however I know that with new hardware, new OS will also come in.

(un)luckily can't get a GPU, so "new PC-shopping" is moved to the unspecified future. :p:D

Why announce an end-of-support date for W10 before W11 is even out? It just seems so pushy, like saying "move along, we don't want you using our old product, please buy our new one as soon as it comes out". :shadedshu:

To me I liked windows 10 gave actual Bluetooth Audio usable now. Besides the on and on updates it's fine. I still use windows 7 though with Toshiba's Bluetooth Software/Drivers

Hoping they will resolve the stupid auto-update, automatic file deletion issue, etc and other issues with Win10.
Those don't exist anymore. Windows 10 has progressed a lot for what it was on launch. Windows 10 1507 is only barely related to Windows 10 21H1.
Only security updates are auto-updated. Everything else is optional.
I've never had a file delete itself by Windows 10. Anything that's been deleted has been by my own hand.

I don't think MS will charge for their next Windows edition since they made W10 a free upgrade from 7, 8, and 8.1, plus you can use 7, 8, and 8.1 keys for W10.
I hope they don't call it Windows 11. I liked when they gave it an actual name, like Windows XP and Windows Vista.
I kinda like Windows Marvell.

Only thing in my wishlist is for Microsoft to release a processor-agnostic OS, I want to be able to run Windows on ARM properly.

For some reason cannot upload video here(mp4 format) but a friend of mine dropped his PC few days back(updated to latest version) and windows would automatically delete folders and files when clicked on them. That issue of auto deletion is still present in some configs. In case of updates they broke the perfectly working system from Win7/8/8.1, I dont mind notifications for new updates but dont want them shoved down forcefully.

Perhaps the PC being dropped caused the problem, and not Windows by itself? Windows doing that is a symptom of Windows being tampered with or being corrupted.

They're not shoved down your throat. The only reason I know there's updates for Win10 is because I periodically check. And security updates being automatic is not a bad thing.

Man. I just finally made the move from 7 to 10 (though I greatly dislike 10) back in January when I upgraded to my 5900x.

I'll probably upgrade to Windows 11 once I get a new GPU and at the rate things are going, I'll probably never get a new GPU.

Didn't Microsoft said back then when Windows 10 was coming, that they are stopping with the numbering and just gonna release updates? And that will be just "Windows" or I'm missing something?

There must be a new DirectX, just like a developer is holding back info on Vulkan 2.0, clearly stating he's not allow to talk about it. ie, under NDA

Win 10 is a hot garbage with telemetry, whatever M$ launches lets hope it is better than Win10.
Turn the telemetry to Basic Mode and you're fine. I have looked at the data that's sent when in Basic Mode with the Diagnostic Data Viewer app and there's absolutely nothing that's anywhere close to person in nature that's sent. All that's sent is just a bunch of numbers; no email addresses, names, passwords, not even URLs of pages you visit. Basic Mode is fine.

There's been some independent third party analysis of both Basic and "Security" mode (enterprise only) telemetry. There is some personal data transmitted but nothing really worth fretting your life away about. It's still less than ideal.

I just wonder if they are going to try the same approach as Win 10 to build a user base by giving it away, eh either way it is probably going to be something nobody asked for and widely hated.

Yeah I'm on Windows 7 and I'll be on it until companies stop supporting it

One can disable Win10 auto-updates by setting your internet connection as a "Metered Network" and then have Windows set to not update when on a Metered Network. You'll get some nagging, but otherwise Windows won't auto-update and it'd be up to the user to initiate the update manually.

All that said, I'd rather MS go back to cycled releases, with fewer, but greater Service Pack style updates that rolls everything mostly tested into one package, with only minor update released just for WinDefender. Force them to actually be comprehensive about things, as well as occasionally overhauling the base code outright rather than endless workarounds.

I have been very pleased with the linux sub system integration into Win10. First the WSL, now WSL2 and WSLg. Most of Win10's intrusive features can be turned off manually. So far I am pretty pleased with Win10, considering I used my Win7 pro keys on Win10Pro

Why announce an end-of-support date for W10 before W11 is even out? It just seems so pushy, like saying "move along, we don't want you using our old product, please buy our new one as soon as it comes out". :shadedshu:

MS has always been pushy. They know that even if they piss us off that the vast majority will go along with what they want us to do.
