Facebook Will Trial Showing Ads in Oculus Quest Games

Facebook has announced that it is working with developers to trial showing ads within Oculus Quest games. The adverts will initially appear in Blaston a paid bullet-hell game developed by Resolution Games with more games to be added in the coming weeks. Facebook will seek user feedback from the trial and may expand the program in an attempt to make the Oculus platform financially sustainable. This latest move comes after Facebook started testing ads in the Oculus mobile app last month to give developers a "new way to showcase their VR applications". Facebook has confirmed that the Oculus privacy and advertising policies will remain the same and that user movement will not be used to show targeted ads.

I mean if the games are free if I watch an ad every 30 mins of gameplay, like I could be ok with that... but I am guessing these ads will be more frequent than that and also be in games you pay for to boot... what a lovely time to be alive.

So yeah, ads in paid games.

Facebook has broken every promise they made in regards to VR from not forcing a facebook login (they now do) to even now showing ads in VR. Expect them to continue to take liberties.

ya, I am just hoping in a couple years a Valve Index 2 will come out for like $799 total package... and be better than Valve Index 1 on top of that... that's when I plan to go VR... just being patient and hoping. :toast:

Anything that Facebook owns, you should not be surprise that it will make use of every possible opportunity to,
1. Take your data/ information for them to use and sell,
2. Post advertisements

To avoid that, just avoid anything Facebook and affiliated to Facebook.

Like when EA tried to put adverts in UFC 4, because that ended so well and people were really happy receiving ads in something they paid for

Considering every fifth post on Facebook is an ad, I sadly think you're on to something...

And people were wondering why Facebook can charge as tittle for Oculus. They'd probably give it away for $50 if they could sell your profile to every company out there.

So Facebook is officially IOI from "Ready Player One". They literally wanted to take over the Oasis(a VR evolved Internet) and put ads in everyone's HUDs.

Imagine moving in a dark place in VR and then "Congratulations you won $1.000.000 press OK to continue" with loud sounds and flashy colors...at less than 10 centimeters from your eyes. Everything will be fine :D

people pay to OWN a headset, not rent. People pay to OWN a game not borrow it. WE PAY to own, because thats whats we are told we are doing with our hard earn money.

I am not surprise f*k-u-book is doing this, greedy bastards, I' sure google is jealous they didnt do it first. As was said for free games, some may find they are ok with it ( give the an inch and they take a mile), it wouldnt be much different than playing the free games from m$ store.

I also doubt fB will lie about the results and say "feedback was encouraging".

Pretty soon when Facebook launches their smartwatch (or whatever they hell they're going to call it), it will probably be required to have one of those and sync it with your Oculus Quest 2 headset before you can log into your games, while allowing them to stream video from all your devices so they can continue to be more intrusive in your life.

I've been debating a quest 2 for a while now. I'm going to wait until I see how this plays out. I don't need a VR headset, I just thought it might be a fun toy, but I hate the idea of ads in paid software.

Me thinking:
I play space, flight and driving simulators, a VR headset would be great!

Valve VR: too expensive and useless controllers (for simulators - that's what steering wheel and HOTAS are for).
Oculus: everybody knew it will require fb account (I'm OK with that), sell your data (I'm Ok with that, for free games), and show in-your-face ads (HELL NO).

Me thinking again:
Screw VR, back to my 7 yr old WQHD monitor

My answer to Waters and anyone who despises Suckaterd for the increasing encroachment into people's personal lives is that he knows his customers well, which is why he is so incredibly rich and influential.

Yeah but honestly it's still not a bad headset to get for just SteamVR. It's hard to beat at it's price point and it's wireless PCVR hmd. Virtual Desktop just updated and it's better than Air-Link atm. Sideload still works and Pavlov Shack is probably my favorite app on Quest 2 and this guy has gone out of his way not to be bought out by FB. I think everyone is over reacting tbh. I will just avoid any games that use the adverts and enjoy my 299 VR HMD. No other VR HMD on the market can touch what it offers and it just got 120hz support.
