A couple of years ago I purchased used RX 580 for ~150$
In normal times it would be worth now ~100$ or less
I could sell it for ~500$ now - isn't this madness?
It really is the best time for Intel to deliver.

I don't care if it's on 28nm, it was supposed to be on store shelves and in prebuilts yesterday. Even GT1030 and old GTX750Ti sells like hotcakes nowadays, so this crap has potential and target audience regardless of performance. If "DG2 on TSMC" is their new "10nm is almost here", then come end of this year it'll be too little too late.

If I were you, I'd sell it now. My 2060 Super paid for my main rig upgrade and half of my server rack.
Spent few weeks running 4K monitor off a GT730 and it was fine for work and productivity. Even DG1 would be a killer WS GPU, if only it was.... khm... was...

Oh that's great, but i really don't care about what the open market determines, if i consider it too expensive, i just don't buy it
I have absolutely no problem waiting for a price i'm confortable with.

PD: i'll never buy anything this year if prices keep so damn high, no matter if "the open market" considers it a good price. I have all the time and patience in the world.

Intel should price it slightly lower simply to accelerate market penetration. Not much lower though - Intel is a name brand.

Intel should price significantly lower. Current GPU MSRP isn't impressive to begin with, let alone Intel's questionable driver stability and performance. Intel needs to prove that it can run both Legacy and Modern apps without issue and with good performance. This is one of the few times where I believe reviews should also include older titles as well. We've seen AMD and Nvidia cards run well on older titles because they released graphics cards during that time, Intel hasn't and that needs to be explored. In addition, we need to see the feature set they provide with their drivers. If it's more barebones than Nvidia and AMD they should be priced accordingly. For example, will Intel have integer scaling? How will it handle FreeSync? Are there any built in tuning tools or power saving modes? Can you tune global graphics preferences with a reasonable amount of settings? Ect.

While there still are shortages, that doesn't stop R&D progress, and NVIDIA, AMD, etc. are all still making money hand over fist. New GPUs are going to be on a new process, they'll release them as they'll still make money on them.

Sure, of course R&D will go on, but why release them when you can delay it one more year? R&D costs money. If you can stretch it out, less money spent upfront.

Why is everyone assuming the next gen rtx 4000 will be released in 2022? With the shortage at tsmc, I am almost certain next gen won’t be here until 2023. 2022 may see a refresh, but I don’t see next gen coming in such a short time. The rtx 3xxxx was only released in late 2020.

yeah shortage won't be fixed anytime soon. which is why I am trying to get my hands on a Playstation 5 soon. I almost got one yesterday at walmart but was just a bit to slow.

maybe in a couple weeks I will get lucky. i really am getting a bit burned out at sitting at my desk, and console is just so much easier to get a lazy boy recliner and kick back with a controller. instead of having to go into settings change this or that so the tv works properly, etc etc etc

For true success, RTX 2060 performance at €200 and plenty of stock. And GTX 1660TI at €150.

Shortage does not affect your release schedule. AMD kind of hinted at a 2022 update of their CPU and GPU. While you can say it’s vaporware and you may not be able to get it when it’s announced, but isn’t it the same for most gamers when it comes to the RTX 3000 series. Just the announcement of a new gen of graphic card will pour a whole bunch of cold water on Intel’s GPU since this is still competing with current gen GPUs.

About the performance expected given the hardware's theoretical pixel and texel math. Intel will just need drivers to really shine. Beyond that, they need to try to find a way to make these in their own fabs.

Overeliance on TSMC in the face of all these chip shortages and China's aggressiveness towards Taiwan is shaping up hot like a glassblower's bottleneck.

we will get this in 2030 just like back then intel made larrabee and compare it to gtx 280 back in 2008 and till now it's 2021 still nothing. It's just another hype train plus fairy tale dirts. If intel is able to make gpu we already see it years ago, they just gave us smth to keep their stock price in check since intel is a train wreck .......i guess i will be happy to stick with my 6800xt luckily i grabbed it at mrsp price at launch from china

Bingo! Wanted to say exactly this and then saw your comment. I agree completely - 4000 series probably won't be out until Q2 of 2023.
