Microsoft Announces Windows 11 is Coming as a Free Upgrade Over Windows 10

You can also tell the CPU list is BS by how the Skylake-X Xeons and the 10980XE are supported, but the 7980XE and 9980XE are not.
There are no practical difference between the X299 platform CPUs, except the Kabylake-X stuff where Intel soldered a Desktop die on the LGA2066 package.
The only difference on the 10980XE is that it has a soldered lid and have some of the security fixes built in.
Does anyone know if there's something like special instruction sets that those older CPUs don't support that the newer ones do?

"When it officially comes out, all of the existing Windows 10 users can upgrade to Windows 11 for free, by just performing the software update."

They make it sound optional, but this is Microsoft and they usually just force updates on the general populace that leave W.U. turned on.

What a shocker. Not like they could sell it as is. No one would buy it..

Those results are interesting.
Hi,
There's a sucker born every second just ask any scalper ;)

Mark my words. Microsoft & Bethesda, Starfield and Elder Scrolls 6 are going to be Windows 11 only just to force people to upgrade! For millions of millions people windows 11 is not a simple FREE upgrade. They will restrict requirements more and more until release also. (look at what they changed already!) XsX XsS + game pass looks super good now right? $500 vs $1500-2500 pc. So much for PC Master Race. I was on dual boot win7 win10 for years, now installed linux mint beta also, i am in heaven (steam). An awesome person gave me a hint about win11 requirements yesterday and i was able to get this result , no TPM2.0 module installed or bios option available, 7-8 years old mainboard and i7 4770, just converted mbr disk to GPT, that's all! It was either BUG or........... Why TPM2.0? Read this. And Microsoft wants Steam to be part of its new Windows 11 app store also?!

Here enjoy this 12 years old video .

Peace.

If its so good why is it free?

So I ran the Windows PC Health checkup thingy and it says my system is not compatible.

I'm glad to know I won't wake up one day with this crock of shit forced on me.

I just... can't say anything dammit. I do love it though! I would hint linux... but that's it....

Great News ,was expected , but now official

i hope the windows 10 OEM keys thats costs $8--$10 from the many different websites also works for upgrade.. lol

This is hardware security hell. It is a flawed model, and one day depending on it so much is going to hurt us, bad.

E5-1650 v2(2) and E5-1660 v2(1) Xeon cpus here, all on three X79 systems, only 1 of which has a 1.2 TPM 20pin port on the motherboard, the others would need a version on usb or pcie, but so far I've not found those two parts, so unless it's built in, those two seem to stop at 10.

How many desktop users have TPM modules to begin with?
Just checked that my PC doesn't support win 11. The fact that my 4 yo PC doesn't support windows 11 is just ridiculous.
I remember even my 7yo laptop could upgrade to w10 back then.

I also heard from Gamers Nexus that win 11 will only support Ryzen 2000 series or higher. The worst OS launch ever I guess.

The question is, do high end motherboards even have TPM modules to begin with? Imagine recently building a high end Ryzen 5000 machine with X570 motherboard and turned out it doesn't even support win 11.

Hi! My PC also doesn't support Windows 11. It says "PC must support Secure Boot." I enabled Secure Boot, still it shows this warning. I wonder why...
