An effect I rarely, if ever see, let alone substantially detracting from a crisp, fluid next gen visual experience, even more so at high framerate, the latest doom eternal update is another testament to this.

Like all things, it is in no way exempt from constructive criticism and, shall we call it, nitpicking, like any visual presentation, upscaled/reconstructed, or not.
Perfect I'll try that game then and see , nitpicking eh, it took a measurable time to update when rotating 180° , none the less, we see what we see, and that's jarring to me.

Improvements are always welcome.

OT:
Until I see 50/50 GPU market share, sure, I doubt we will see AMD get there anytime soon, so until then, I just want nVidia to get kicked in the nuts for a change, because, reasons.
Consoles are taking up alot of silicon. PS5 308 mm², Series X 360 mm², Series S 197 mm². Combined they've sold 15m+. We could have quite alot Ryzen, Radeon, APUs on the market.

It's hard to get excited about new dGPUs features in times when lower mid range 3060 sells for 690€ (830$). Remember, xx60/Polaris class GPUs used to cost 179 to 299$ just 5 years ago.
Plus I see hardly any games being released that would justify paying so much more for a new dGPU. On the contrary, the only real "next gen" game I can think of that puts 2016 era games in shame is MS Flight simulator 2020. Everything else feels like been there done that same old same old with a bit of polish and shine on top of it but usually worse AI and single player campaign than 2016 games (and older).

After all, I'd wager the vast majority of PC gamers don't really care about the 'war', they just buy hardware that fits their budget and performance needs and game away, with 0 investment into brand preference and couldn't give a rats about the politics.
I'd have to disagree, we care about that war very much, competitive gaming needs that war to keep on the edge, and many average gamers want performance regardless of price, affording that performance takes time for some. Some games work better with team red, others do with team green.

This is technically providing an advantage to AMD FSR technology, ad the image is posed to look better with less upscaling.
Yeah, and an image is posed to look even better with no upscaling at all... This is really a silly argument, nVidia might have been too aggressive with what it calls "quality" setting, but in the end the point of upscaling is gaining fps, you might as well render the game at 95% and resize it by 1.05 times and call it ultra-hyper-mega-super quality setting, but what is the point? AMD's quality mode might look better, but unless I'm missing something here, it's also posed to offer less frame rate gains.

The DF guys are fine... except Battaglia. His coverage of FSR for example was dismal, and suffered from confirmation bias from previous comments before launch for example. Also, whilst I generally applaud their focus on IQ, their hard on for Raytracing is.... odd.
No idea why he can't criticise DLSS, even DLSS1.0.
In his coverage of FSR his results were weird, textures looked way better on HUB video, and he kept praising temporal solutions but didn't mention any of the shortcoming, again on the HUB video we can clearly see the mess brought up by DLSS.
As for RayTracing I still don't the point, in their coverage of Control they show us an awful coffee machine mug with 2 polygons with RayTracing...
It seems when it comes to DLSS and RayTracing they lose all objectivity.

It is competing and not in the fashion you predicated at all. DL is actually the spray and pray approach -- throw a million examples at the network and let it converge to the desired result.

I find this general statement quite odd, like the implication being that people essentially hate Nvidia, and want to see them... doomed? leaving us with an AMD monopoly....

We're in primetime atm imo, both companies highly competitive at a silicone level, and more and more competitive at the software level every day. Great time to own either.

After all, I'd wager the vast majority of PC gamers don't really care about the 'war', they just buy hardware that fits their budget and performance needs and game away, with 0 investment into brand preference and couldn't give a rats about the politics.
Just so you know.. I hate Nvidia!!

This is just a marketing based response from Nvidia, in order to have an equivalent segmentation in the marketing communication of the upscaling levels as AMD. I wonder if will be just a higher resolution per axis (1.2-1.3X) in relation with quality preset (1.5X) or something more exotic like 2160 res in one axis and 1920-2560 in the other and then fused AI upscaled checkerboarding or something

First setting I turn off in every game is motion blur. It’s just not realistic the way it’s overdone.

Remember now. It's super mega-ultra extreme so it's automatically better

It really does make you sad that there isn't just a internal resolution slider for these, instead of Ultra Quality, Quality, Balanced, Performance, Ultra Performance.

For me it's things like film grain and chromatic aberration, motion blur I generally at least try and see if I can get along with it, which I almost always do if it's per-object. Plus the higher the framerate the less 'intrusive' it is.

Truly seems like one of the biggest divides with gamers and visual effects is motion blur though, and I've certainly seen some utterly heinous examples over the years where it's ridiculously overdone. Especially if there's say camera shake and that sort of thing. I can see how that alone could be enough for people to forever associate the effect with those examples and outright disable it no matter what.

FSR runs on pretty much everything. How much of the market have DLSS capable GPU? 5%? 10%? 15%?

Same statement we saw when Freesync was announced to fight G-sync back in the days.
"The power of G-sync module vs cheap built-in sync function"

Now 99% of the monitors with sync function on the market are Freesync / G-sync compatible, only handful of "gamer" monitors are "True G-sync"

Agreed on that, can look good in cutscenes but can be much more of a miss in gameplay.

This however is where motion blur does 'fill in the gaps' and mimic the way our eyes blur intense motion, where our eyes don't do this to a rasterized image when we are looking at a fixed panel. The problem, from my perspective, is shit/overly smeary and intense implementations, when done well (IMO) it can be *chefs kiss*, but of course, to each their own.

May be just like what Steven Walton called out some time back where Nvidia wants him/ Hardware Unbox, to focus on the strong points/ features of Ampere. So based on what you mentioned here, sounds familiar?

Actually, Nvidia have been working very hard on DLSS ever since AMD announced that they will release their upscaling technology. Notice DLSS take up have been very slow, and considering its been around for around 3 or slightly more years. It is only this year where the numbers actually jumped and Nvidia constantly trying to get more titles onboard.

Nvidia is pretty ruthless about their market share. Corporations and all that.

Definitely each to there own , tried dlss on doom eternal last night, I am no hater but that's not for me, my eye's don't blur shit that much in real life, with no blur on just dlss highest quality, spinning around is much better than it was, but it's still like having extreme blur on when you spin, no lag now so that is better.
Dlss and raytracing made it look a disaster to my eye's quivering textures all over the place.

Perhaps Nvidia do need a better dlss quality option.
