AMD is preparing to launch the Ryzen Threadripper 5000 "Chagall" HEDT processors in August 2021, according to a MoePC report, confirming a rumor from April 2021. These chips will arrive in core-counts of up to 64, spanning two CPU socket types—sTRX4 (Ryzen Threadripper) and sWRX8 (Ryzen Threadripper PRO), and compatible with existing motherboards that run Ryzen 3000 Threadrippers, requiring a UEFI firmware update. Nearly every retail sTRX4 motherboard we've come across features USB BIOS Flashback, letting you update the firmware of an off-the-shelf motherboard without needing to install a compatible processor.

What's new with the Ryzen Threadripper 5000 is the new "Zen 3" CCDs, which place all 8 CPU cores of the die into a single CCX, sharing a unified 32 MB L3 cache. The I/O is identical to the previous generation, with the sTRX4 chips featuring quad-channel DDR4 interface, and sWRX8 ones featuring 8-channel, both with ECC; and up to 88 PCI-Express Gen 4 lanes. AMD also slightly increased the xGMI2 bandwidth to 18 GT/s, from 16 GT/s on the Ryzen Threadripper 3000 series.

Many Thanks to DeathtoGnomes for the tip.

To the completely non existing Intel HEDT equivalent and the next best thing from them which isn't even in the same realm of performance with this.

It is better to purchase these than first generation pbo-consequential TR1 series. It is no small feat to control heat in successive generations, you either throttle, or kill the motherboard in previous chip runs. The heat latency impact is unmistakable.

eah, but packed with so many cours its good for at least 2 to 3 years.

Even a 5800x to this day will last you quite some time.
Oh yeah, Im not worried about that. I was just curious if this was the last hurrah for DDR4. I only got my first set of DDR4 like 8 months ago. Whoops! I will pick up DDR5 in a couple of years.

I guess their new cache setup with go to AM5..

No doubt these new chips will be crazy fast and cost a small fortune. Specially the 64 core variant.

I think I will be good with my current 5600X/5950X for a while now.

if a person is worried about the price tag, he doesn't need this pc part for a fact.

Need smeed, I agree I don't need it, I know I'm not getting it but f#@£ I wouldn't mind one, and all its cores would be loaded for life If I got one I assure you.

Plus that's balls, I'm concerned about the price I'm paying for my car, it's fuel etc etc, some I buy anyway like pc parts.

Well, I think they were readying a 56 core part, but I don't remember if it launched or if it's stuck somewhere in the process node or whatever

There is not as much increase in performance in the heavily multithreaded apps between Zen and Zen 3 so it's probably not worth increasing if you have already Zen 2 Threadripper. The good thing is is you have now from start the 8 channel sku.

It's far from the last hurrah for DDR4... Alder lake has a DDR4 and DDR5 memory controller, leaving it up to the mobo manufacturers to make the choice, and reports already indicated that only the absolute top model motherboards, like $500+ will have DDR5 memory controllers. PCIe 5.0 is just a marketing ploy for the time being, other than enterprise and the few workstation niches that need an SSD that fast. GPUs are far from saturating PCIe 4.0 as it is and most people cannot even distinguish the difference between an NVMe PCIe 3.0 and SATAIII SSD in day to day use.... It's got at least several years left in it, I mean, look how long 3.0 was around.

I don't know, the cache redesign with Zen3 could be very useful in Threadripper

I think zen 1 was recognised as a multithread friendly design with much of the challenge of zen 3 stemming from bringing the intercore communication up to speed. At least this line was what Intel used to pick on zen 1.

Oh, so the DRAM tech that has stopped evolving over the last year, with a new generation coming out that is vastly superior in terms of speed, is not on its last hurraugh. What's your argument?

Oh, so whataboutism with NVMe (which isnt DRAM) and SATA (which isnt DRAM) and their speed differences (are you seriously trying to say that faster DRAM makes no difference? LMFAO), a red herring over PCIe 3.0 lifespans (which is flat out wrong, given that every motherboard using x570/b550/z590/b560 uses PCIe 4.0) and "reports" that only $500+ motherboard will use DDR5, your source being "dude trust me I got a source".

I think its safe to say your entire comment can be completely ignored.

Actually, he's entirely correct about the DDR5 motherboards.
Most, if not all board makers are only expecting offer DDR5 support on their highest-end models.
This wasn't the original plan, but with the current component shortage, they can't get enough of the parts they need, especially for the power regulation, so DDR5 will be very limited to start with.

And next time, maybe, just maybe, don't be an arse about something that you have zero insight into.
