Qualification samples (QS) of Intel's upcoming Core i9-12900K "Alder Lake-S" desktop processors just hit the black market for the equivalent of roughly USD $1,064 to $1,157 (6,500 to 7,500 RMB), in China. The processor maxes out the 10 nm silicon, offering 8 "Golden Cove" P-cores, and 8 "Gracemont" E-cores, along with 30 MB of L3 cache, a dual-channel DDR5 memory interface, in a hybrid processor setup. You can bag yourself this QS, but you'll need to find a compatible motherboard. "Alder Lake-S" debuts the new LGA1700 socket, Intel's first major change in the physical dimensions of its mainstream-desktop CPU socket since 2009, mandating a cooler update.

Anyone on TPU got the scratch to buy one for testing? I would if i had the moolah. Seems you need to buy 100 though.

Knowing Intel prices history, if this CPU is really beating the competitors 1100$ is underselling it.

These leakers need to be criminally charged.. these reckless glory hunters

weird wording, but technically this is theft right? it seems like this would be illegal.

Personally I dont understand the mentality of having to test everything asap, just wait until the normal review time, we cant get it before then anyway for any normal price.

The mentality is to create false hope or hype, placing a price like that means the cpu is very very good but in turn could also be false and in the end only reviews will say if is good or not. I guess whoever is selling them have many many more and will try to sell them and for that to happen he needs to create hype so people with more money than sense, I mean idiots can buy it, they will say "I buy now the cpu and wait for the motherboard" ehhe

Early reviews make traffic, and interesting reading.

Pretty sure this is illegal. QS/ES are usually rather controlled, resale is not allowed and pre-production stuff is generally covered under NDA.

Well, practically ES chips are also Intel's (or AMD's) property but nobody seems to care if those are sold in ebay etc.

Yeah on paper it seems good and fun cpu to tinker with, its like when intel and amd moved to dual/quad cores cpu.

Feels like consumer dual and quad cores came not that long ago, but A64 X2 & Pentium D came in 2005, first Core 2 Quad came in 2006 and Phenom came in 2007... damn it's a long time.

ES/QS chips have always been Intel property and are regarded as theft if sold. However, taking a quick look at eBay will show you that Intel doesn't really care enough to prosecute the parties involved in selling ES/QS chips or even investigate it.

The $1100 price tag is for getting the chip early, it has nothing to do with MSRP/final retail price. It'll be close to the MSRP of existing i9's, obviously.

Specially when the apparent seller, will not sell less than 100 at once, how the fuck they have their hands on that many is beyond me.
