LG Reportedly Delaying 42" 4K OLED TV Launch Until 2022

LG has reportedly delayed the release of their first 42-inch 4K OLED TV until CES 2022 according to industry sources talking with Korea Economic Daily (KED). The new TV which has been optimized for gaming on next-generation consoles will be launched alongside the rest of LG's 2022 lineup reportedly "to maximize its marketing efforts rather than unveiling it later this year". The smallest model currently offered by LG in their OLED lineup is 48 inches but they hope this new 42-inch model will better appeal to gamers. The LG OLED lineup is already extremely popular with gamers thanks in part due to features like 4K 120 Hz HDR support with G-SYNC over HDMI 2.1.

Back in April (2020) was impossible to find 48" LG OLED CX's models (I wanted one to replace my good old Sharp Aquos 47" TV from 2009, and kept waiting for months before) and in the end I got a 55" LG OLED CX6LA because I had the money and not the patience to wait more time. I'm using it as my main monitor yes.

Great TV's for sure, those 42" look like the right size for a bedroom like mine, yet I'll keep this one for a long time. I can't imagine knowing about these and having to wait again another year to get one.

yep, the average user (sleep 8 hours day, work 8 hours a day) and even if you have this on 8 hours a day for the next 5 years or more, should be just fine and dandy, as long as you turn it off when not using it.


LG has a lot of neat tech built in to prevent burn in, also if you game in a dark room with sun blinds, no need to play at 100 brightness on this either, which means 10+ years lifespan most likely.

48 LG C1 OLED TV. I have one. It is really the best TV. 120hz, AMD FreeSync Premium, and Nvidia G-Sync. Enjoy.

It is bigger than you asked. Don't assume smaller OLED means smaller price, In fact, quite the reverse.

Too big. I am thinking of 40-43'' because I can not find a 37'' 4K TV. Even the 32'' is somewhat big for the 70-100 centimeters distance that I have it from me.

I said exactly that to lynx29 in another thread. I sit about 90cm from my monitor. 32 inches is big enough, given I have 20:15 vision, and any bigger involves neck movements.

This is why I don't follow monitor announcements. There's always a couple of years between the moment you hear about them at some expo and the moment you can actually buy one. It's even worse if you're eyeing a micro-LED or something like that.

Rtings tested older generation OLED's with static content. This kind of testing takes a long time. Theirs took over 5 years of continiuous running and the results are from 2019 so already years out of date. Direct quote from their website:

Update 05/31/2019: The TVs have now been running for over 9000 hours (around 5 years at 5 hours every day). Uniformity issues have developed on the TVs displaying Football and FIFA 18, and are starting to develop on the TV displaying Live NBC. Our stance remains the same, we don't expect most people who watch varied content without static areas to experience burn-in issues with an OLED TV.

So no. Rtings testing found the previous gen OLED's were already very persistant to burn-in unless subjected to unrealistic conditions like 5 years of continiuous running.

My review is the scaling of lower resolution video is vastly superior to the previous generation. There is a small but perceptible improvement in the 3D-like pop of subjects with an OOF background. The remote is improved with the pause and play button added at the bottom, where they are easily accessed. My unit has one small problem, a noticeable lip-sync delay on one streaming service. My rating: 9.8/10.

And that's incorrect because Panasonic and Sony also use LG panels but they offer completely different features in some aspects due to different design around that panel (different SoC's, different cooling solutions that allow for higher peak brightness, different number of HDMI 2.1 ports, etc.). Also, in case of GB OLED afaik there's also DP port, right? Not to forget the lack of TV tuner.

Poor schmuck, only one monitor. BITD I lobbied at work and got dual+ monitors for anyone who needed another+. That was an order for over 10,000 monitors.
