Graphics Card Prices Increased Up To 92 USD in China Last Month

Chinese news site MyDrivers have recently reported on increasing graphics card prices in China over the last month. These price increases come as a result of reduced GPU shipments especially of the NVIDIA RTX 3060 whose supply is down 50% with improvements not expected for several weeks. The site has tracked the prices for popular cards from ASUS, Gigabyte, and MSI with increases across the board ranging from a 12 USD increase on the Gigabyte GTX 1050 Ti up to a 92 USD increase on the ASUS RTX 3070 Ti. These supply impacts have impacted NVIDIA to a greater extent than AMD but the general price increases are likely indicative of the global trend over the coming weeks.

well, am just going to sit tight till 2023... ...
Not like there is much choice, unless you pay double the MSRP. The humble 1050 TI is retailing at 1660 super prices, so yeah I am going to make do with an APU if I have to, but this is not the market I am going to buy a GPU in.

Do not worry gamers, once crypto crashes to hehell, all this gpu bs pricing they are increasing will be decreasing, because if they dont then people will only buy second hand gpus at a 60% discount or more x msrp.

You better hope the card to not die by itself sooner.

Easy to say when You have a card. But put Yourself in place of people who are either trying to buy a new PC, or had their previous GPU fail and they seek replacement. The necessity overcomes the bloated price then.

I agree. My son is hoping his 1060 3GB doesn't fail from overuse: LoL, Albion ...

We could buy a 3060 but $999 for a card that won't do 1440p@144hz seems overpriced.

Yeah I don't have a gPU anymore to take care of apart of a trusty 770 that displays output. Bought and sold ETH every time it doubled in price, starting with 50 euro mined on a 1050Ti in january, more than enough for a GA102 variant by now. Crypto can't just go there and stay there. the faster it goes up the faster it goes down.

That's exactly why I refuse to sell a spare GTX 1650 Super (bought new for £149 but seen selling on Ebay used for +£300). Even though I could double my money, I'd rather have a backup GPU and give the middle finger to the miners / scalpers "oh, but you must pay double to me because you have no choice" demands.

If you have an old card that you need to nurse gently through this scalping/supply period don't forget to underclock them or reduce the power limits. Also blast the dust off the heatsinks with some canned air.

For Nvidia cards, use MSI afterburner to set an 85% power limit and 75C temperature limit. You will likely only lose 5-6% performance whilst simultaneously stopping the extreme voltages that go with those top boost bins.

For AMD cards, the tuning in the drivers is fantastic, but you can usually just drop the highest boost-state voltage by 100mv and test for stability. If you reduce the clockspeed by 5% you can probably drop voltage by another 100mv.

In both cases, the goal is to prevent the highly demanding, highly inefficient maximum boost voltages. Sure, they might get you 5% more performance but they put way more than 5% extra strain on your card and silicon.

Hey remember how china was like totes banning crypto and this was going to obliterate the crypto market?

Working real well right?

GPUs are not necessities. Bing Bing Wahoo is not needed for daily life. More people need to go touch grass and get off of their PCs for awhile. Unless you live in a dystopian state (california, new york, australia) that will never stop locking down, there are plenty of other hobbies you can enjoy. And if you only have an iGPU or really low end stuff, there are literal DECADES of software for PC and console that you can run. Something as weak as the GT 1030 can run dolphin, PCSX2, PPSSPP, PCSX1, ece, giving you the ability to run almost everything from the golden era of gaming.

The only people who "need" GPUs (and are not researchers or professionals that already pay scalper level prices for quaddro cards and have been for 20+ years) are streamers and the like who have to play games and encode them in real time, and frankly if you are doing that as a profession and not taking every sponsor you can get for that sweet revenue that can pay for a 3090 in just one video you're doing it wrong.

Sell the 1650 Super for £300 and buy a GTX 970, which are selling for £100-120. With an overclock a 970 is damn near on par with a 1650 Super anyway.

GPU may not be a necessity for you, but it may be for others. Could they survive without one? It's a good possibility, but who are you to judge folks for what they deem as necessary when you have different values?

I could personally go without a GPU. I have days I may not use my computer. I'd miss gaming here and there, but I'm pretty content just sitting outside, in the shade with a nice breeze and not having to listen to the noise of other people.

Maybe my neighbor is agoraphobic and has debilitating fear/anxiety and they can only cope with people online and/or gaming. Perhaps a GPU is a necessity to them.

What may not be necessary for you or me, may be necessary for others.
