I recently got an E6700 and an Asrock 4coredual-vsta mobo, however the system specs shown in cpu-z confuse me.

The stock speed of the E6700 is 2.66ghz, shows up in bios as 2.66ghz, but cpu-z (and system properties) show it as 2.56ghz.
The 'rated fsb' shows up as 1025mhz when i thought it would have been 1066.

The 4coredual-vsta should have the VIA PT880 Ultra chipset but shows up as having the PT880 Pro which I think are inferior (via overclocking to reach 1066).

Can anyone explain these unexpected results? Help would be greatly appreciated.

Update your chipset drivers. If that doesn't work raise the fsb manually.

as for the cpu speeds and stuff, its just like that, your cpu doesn't run at the exact speed, my 2.4 cpu runs at 2412 mhz. as for the chipset, try updating the drivers, or it could just be a cpu-z bug (or the mobo manufacturer made a mistake/midlead you)

I'm putting my money on chipset drivers. Any takers?

Intel SpeedStep drops the cpu's multiplier not the fsb speed.

Drivers don't control the fsb either.

Go into the bios and manually set the fsb to 266mhz.

1. Not nessecarilly true.

2. That's what I would do.

In bios I had the option of 'cpu, pcie sync' or 'cpu, pcie async', I went with the first.
Then 'pci frequency' options were 'sync with cpu' or 33.33mhz up to 37.50mhz, I chose the default setting of 33.33mhz. Are these settings ok?

I manually set it to 266, which worked a treat! I'm a bit nooblish, thanks for your help.

The chipset drivers still confuse. I have the latest 5.13a hyperion drivers which states - includes the following components:
INF V2.90A
AGP V4.60A

...in cpu-z agp version is 3.0

Are there specific pt880 ultra drivers available?

ALWAYS lock the PCI bus at 33MHz. If you play around with overclocking later when your issue here gets fixed, when you raise FSB the system raises the PCI bus to un-bottleneck itself but if it gets too high it produces errors so lock it at 33.

It's probably just speedstep, try running a stress program like Orthos with cpu-z open and see if it changes things, although using latest drivers and motherboard BIOS is always reccomended. If there is a newer BIOS and/or newer drivers available install those.

Well, you are using the correct drivers. There is a difference between the pro and the ultra in terms of hardware, but not drivers. Is it just CPU-Z that says you have "pro"? Have you looked in your device manager?

Ah, it says 'via ultra vlink controller' under system devices. :p

Cheers! My heart sank when I first saw this but you've cleared it up.

Thanks everyone :toast:

report the mistake that cpu-z made about the chipset to the cpu-z folk so that they can fix it for the other people that'll be through the same thing.
