The upcoming flagship Intel Core i9-12900K has recently appeared in a CPU-Z single-thread synthetic benchmark where the processor scored 825 points. This would place the i9-12900K 27% higher than AMD Ryzen 9 5950X with 648 points and 20% faster then the previous generation Core i9-11900K at 682 points. This leak comes after SiSoftware published an early performance overview which showed the i9-12900K only matching the performance of competitors. We have also seen the processor in Cinebench R23 where it bested the 32-core AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX HEDT processor. The 12th Generation Intel Core family is expected to be announced later this year alongside the Z690 chipset with the i9-12900K rumored to cost 604.99 USD.

Seems like my budget for 5900X will have a chance to go for a 5950X :p

I knew that Intel would eventually be able to beat the pants off AMD again. The difference of course, between then and now, is that AMD can fight back, so we may well see a leapfrogging of performance wins between the two companies for each generation. This is the best outcome for the customer, since it leads to better products at lower prices. In particular, it should help slow or stop the price escalator that they seem to be climbing every generation. Remember back in the old days when the new thing used to be better than the old thing and yet cost less? Yes, it's been so long now, that some people weren't even born then, but some of us remember...

If your 5950X is scoring only 648 in CPU-Z then you're doing something horribly wrong......my 5700G is at 662 with ~4.75GHz ish and 5900X at 687 with 4.91GHz ish................even bone stock at ~4.85GHz it still manages 675, and it's far from a good sample

Nevertheless, I hope these results translate to gaming performance because I've been waiting a long time for this kind of performance jump from Intel. Over the years they didn't make it sound like Golden Cove was anything more than an incremental improvement, so Alder Lake should be pretty damn exciting. I just hope Intel has got some thermal improvements up its sleeve, hopefully they're using Comet Lake (excellent) rather than Rocket Lake (dogshit) as a thermals benchmark.

Since ADL doesn't have AVX 512 it should run abit cooler but I still think you are looking at PL2 228watts+

Should be faster than AMD's year old design but i'm not expecting power consumption to be great. The Threadripper 2990WX HEDT processor that it beat in CB is based on Zen+ and is 3 years old so i'm not even sure why that was used as a comparison lol

competition is good, but competition suppose to lower prices but it looks like the prices are rising
well gotta take in factor theres shortages of raw materials, pandemic and also manufacturing capacity

Rome wasn't built in a day. This is a long play by Intel. It's a good short term solution. Intel could alternate and do the opposite on it's successor or double down with what it's already doing. There is more at play than just the desktop market as well with this chip. The bigger implications are how well Intel can corner the mobile market space with these chips. I think they could even introduce in time a third chip for a high/mid/low arrangement with mid chip as the baseline frequency and high and low have a upper and lower frequency ranges that match it. What they could do then with that situation is the mid chip could have more instruction sets than than low efficient chip and less than the top end performance chip. It allow even further performance and efficiency gains out of the big LITTLE design structure. I'd like to see Intel do some things with FPGA at some point incorporating some into their CPU's and GPU's along with software support over ways to utilize the tech could evolve into something quite nice in time.

Zen 4 will not even be out for at least a year from now.
Not everyone follows everything about Intel or AMD 24x7

Can I have your crystal ball because I sure wanna know the next week's winning lottery numbers!

Wait till we see some actual reviews/tests, I would say
It will also cost a pretty penny allegedly :D

If someone posting on a tech forum knows what ddr5, zen 4 and alder lake are then they surely know that zen 4 is not coming for at least a year according to every rumor out there. ffs we dont even have zen 3 with 3d vcache launching until the very end of the year or maybe even beginning of next year.

If anything is actually confirmed by these benchmarks, it is that Intel has managed to make an even MORE bursty range of CPUs.

Anything you see is irrelevant without an actual power consumption number, actual temps and actual cooling solutions used. That said, if they can indeed push one core sustained to this single thread, Intel is back on top of gaming again. So for consumer, win all around. For server/enterprise though...

You and me both, as I'm not completely sold on this arc just yet. There has to be a major drawback somewhere.
