GIGABYTE TECHNOLOGY Co. Ltd, a leading manufacturer of premium gaming hardware, today announced the upgraded versions of GeForce RTX 3080 graphics cards with 12 GB of VRAM. GIGABYTE provides consumers with a variety of series to meet the needs of more customers. The AORUS series is recommended for the enthusiasts who want the ultimate performance and colorful RGB appearance. The GAMING OC series is the best choice of performance-minded gamers. The EAGLE series is the best choice for those who desire a unique design. In addition to the excellent cooling system and distinctive appearance of each series of graphics cards, they have been upgraded to a larger 12 GB memory capacity to meet the needs of latest graphics intensive 4K game and heavy-duty 3D creation.

The AORUS GeForce RTX 3080 MASTER 12G graphics card is equipped with the MAX-Covered cooling system that features three unique blade fans with a wind claw design and alternate spinning to deliver optimal airflow across the entire heatsink. The large heat-sink and a large vapor chamber and the multiple composite heat-pipes enable heat from the GPU and VRAM to dissipate quickly. Coupled with GIGABYTE's screen cooling technology, the extended heatsink fins allow air to pass through, forming an extremely efficient heat dissipation system to ensure stable operation. A powerful LCD monitor and RGB Fusion 2.0 allows gamers to enjoy various display modes and lighting effects. It is recommended for enthusiasts who want the ultimate 4k gaming performance with colorful RGB lighting.

In addition, there are AORUS XTREME WATERFORCE all-in-one and open-loop water-cooled solutions. The AORUS GeForce RTX 3080 XTREME WATERFORCE WB 12G open-loop water-cooled graphics card is design with the patent-pending "leak detection" technology. It is the best choice for gamers who want a customized style when assembling a water-cooling system computer. The AORUS GeForce RTX 3080 XTREME WATERFORCE 12G all-in-one water-cooled graphics card is the best choice for gamers who want the advantages of water-cooling and easy installation.

The GeForce RTX 3080 GAMING OC 12G and the GeForce RTX 3080 EAGLE 12G graphics cards are equipped with the GIGABYTE WINDFORCE 3X cooling system that features three unique blade fans, alternate spinning, a large copper plate directly touching the GPU, composite copper heat pipes and 3D active fans that work together to provide efficient heat dissipation. The WINDFORCE fans utilize graphene nano lubricant, which can extend fan life by 2.1 times, delivering nearly the lifespan of the double ball bearing while providing quiet operation. RGB Fusion 2.0 allows users to adjust the color of the lights and various special effects and synchronize with other AORUS devices. Due to its ULTRA DURABLE certified components, advanced cooling technology and custom RGB lighting, GAMING OC and EAGLE graphics cards are the best choice for gamers.

GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3080 12G graphics cards are equipped with many unique technologies. The increased memory capacity of 12 GB provides consumers with more choices. To deliver a better user experience, AORUS and GAMING OC graphics cards provide customers with a 4-year warranty (requires online registration within 30 days of the purchase date) so that they can enjoy gaming and create content without any worry.

So this has the full 384-bit bus but uses the 8704 shader variant of GA102? Just wondering why there must be so many different SKUs when people practically can't buy these because of the chip shortage.

In prior years, fewer SKUs were made available to reduce cost on marketing and sell by volume. In today's situation, the demand is so high, it's worth it to sell every bin of the GPUs for as much as possible without consolidating like they did before. Don't think for a minute that there's a high volume of these various SKUs.

I get your point but due to the global shortage, having more SKUs just feels weird.

edit: So it does have a little more shaders, 8960 vs the 8704 of the 10GB one.

They are making use of "bad dies/wafers" coming from 3080ti and 3090s to make these cards. This shit happens all the time in VLSI

I don’t know what it is with people and manufacturers. Colorful RGB appearance has nothing to do with AIO’s or GPU’s. Many want raw performance and any new tech cooling introductions should be able to keep on dropping meaningful temps. Nothing more! Once my desktop system is done it goes under my desk and practically is not seen by anyone for years to come. When my blond girlfriend comes over to the house she most certainly is not interested to see the innards of my gaming PC. She has other plans and objectives. She came to see me and to inspecting her and driving up my own temps. I also know that there will never be a shortage in seeing and experience her for real.

Here's the rub -- the new SKUs use the same Power Limit as their "predecessors", which are already severely power limited!

The entire point of releasing this SKU is to finally consign the orignal 3080 and its "low" price point to the history books. The original "$700" 3080 is now EoL and replaced by this one with no official MSRP.

The 12GB 3080 is bumped up to a 350W base TDP, as opposed to 320W for the original.

You can flash a 370W BIOS to all 2x8 pin cards. They are all still neutered at around 350W, magically.

Nope. This has still way less operational units than the full GA102 has. The upcoming 3090 Ti seems to have everything enabled. Pic from the main 3080 12GB news article.

Interesting comment piece on Hardware Unboxed for this release and the "dodgy" way it was handled by Nvidia.

Obviously be a better miner with the wider bus width. Bet they dont mind that . And could be more memory for gamers hopefully not aimed at miners .

Yeah and probably the 10GB model will become EOL and be replaced with this with even heavier pricing.

It could be another 12-18 months untils 40-series. it could make for a good stop gap product if it can match the future 4070. but it looks more like 4060, so it depends.. All we have now is hopes and wishes. Now ether needs to drop to 2K and mine $2 max. They can't just keep buying the dip forever..

Why is that? Never had any problems with Gigabyte products, especially their graphics cards have been great, at least by my own experience.

If you never have a problem then it's OK. If you do have a problem their warranty service is a hot pile of garbage currently.
They also had the whole controversy of their exploding misrepresented power supplies.

Here in Finland it's the reseller who is responsible for the warranty/RMA so I have no experience of any manufacturer's warranty service (though some products have their extended warranty straight to the manufacturer, like I do with my Seasonic PSU). And yeah I remember that PSU fiasco, not a good thing.
