ARCTIC Identifies Bad Batch of MX-5 TIM in the Market, Offers Free Replacements

i hoped for a product from arctic that is not absolute shit. (even if the performance was "okay")

MX-4 was always good to me over the years before i went with Noctua.

I never had a problem with Arctic, and I appreciate their innovation in the AIO cooling market too, even though I personally will be sticking with noctua air

NT-H2 all the way.
I just wanna build it and leave it, not going to bother with the "ultra high performing thermal paste" crowd.

plus the quality control of Noctua is immaculate.

On the first page of this thread they state that it has always been their top priority to supply its customers with nothing but the best.. I guess they sent out a batch before Q.A. could get back from holidays?

I liked AS5 better than MX4 anyways :D

And don't get me started on how my Ultra 120 Extreme was better than my D14 :D :D

:fear:

I have never heard of Ultra 120 Extreme, will google it now, but better or not temp wise does not mean better in customer service if something were to go wrong or missing. Noctua is king of customer service, that is worth even being a couple celsius hotter imo.

I also see no reason to risk damage to components with something like AS5, when MX4 is only 1-3 celsius hotter. PC stuff is expensive, same reason I use air cooling only, just not worth the risk, even if the risk is mild.

I'm not a total hater though, I am using Noctua fans to keep 625w cool right now as we speak. Wish I could say they were quiet though :D

I am glad they aren't, I need the airflow :)

I'm a bit of a Noctua sinner in this regard.

I use the NZXT Aer-P fans, they look like propellor blades on an airplane, they are relatively quiet and push air like a mofo. I love mine.

I remember the "love it or hate it" reviews on this stuff vs mx4. Maybe this was a factor in some of the bad reviews.
That's possible. I love this stuff. It is the best non-liquid-metal TIM I've tested.

Props to Arctic for making it public and setting things right. This is how a company is supposed to handle problems.

interesting my arctic mx-5 thread here has 101k views, and I don't recall a single issue about it turning into a liquid...
Never had that issue. It's always been a very sticky, gooey material.

It’s all good my man, I have said in the past that I am a massive Thermalright fanboy :D

I almost bought an Arctic LFII 360 more than a few times now.. the shipping is the deal breaker because I am not a fan of the price as it is lol. So I am not entirely against an AIO because a custom loop is not in the cards at this stage.. but I really should educate myself on it because 12 cores man.. only so much air can do and next gen stuff is supposed to be a little more brutal :D

if i could get a $70-90 PC case that supports 420mm AIO, I would get the Arctic 420mm AIO and that case (assuming it was halfway decent for the price), the 420mm AIO from arctic is an insane deal at only $125. problem is finding a case...

Speaking about fans.
The next gen 140mm fans delayed so many times, I bought silent wings instead

Has anyone actually tried the return/replace option since this was posted?

Most likely they will just ask for photos with proof of purchase and a shipping address. Doubt they'll ask for returns of bad batches.

I bought some and it arrived yesterday. bad timing. If i have to pay for return to Germany then it will cost more than the product itself. The lack of info on this article is unsettling.

Has anyone found out how where I genuinely tried no luck.
@lexluthermiester they are illusive reach out how.

Googlefu letting me down, I have some Corsair x50 on the way ?! Wtfk how that's going to go but artic and TG are possible arse so choices.

It's at the end of the article;
support.arctic.de/en/menu/support

At the top of that page there are a pair of phone numbers that might work for you.

Not for thermal paste, but they recently sent me a free socket 1700 adapter kit. Send the invoice, get a discount code, purchase the goods at 100% discount (incl. shipping), get the goods in ~1 week. As hassle free as it gets imho.

If you push the plunger and a bunch of oily stuff comes out that means your TIM has separated and is garbage.
Put it on a paper and remix it

I will still use AS5, along with Arctic, Thermalright, just depends on what i have on hand

Well I remixed it In situ, worked well initially but I feel it's re separated after two weeks heavy use, I can't check until I have something to swap it with but can't load that pc up ATM.

It's a bad batch only, it does put me off a bit though.

Artic support said it will replaced with mx-4 (at double the grams) and requires mx-5 be sent at the cost of user. "Should there ever be any doubts about products we've delivered, we stand by our responsibility to our customers." - i would disagree.

How's about I spend no more money in ANY way on artic products, because I sure as shit am not shipping thermal paste with it's meager cost of 10£ already spent to get something older at a cost AGAIN to me.

F&£# the f£#@ off artic.

They want you to ship it on your dime?
Then replace it with mx-4?
Mmmmnah. That is unacceptable.

Shipping alone costs more than buying another paste yourself. So yeah, strange.
