a lot of 2900 pro news has happened this week ... anyone know teh idle and loaded power draw on one a these babies?

another edit: wtf? 2900pro has 512bit bus as club3d revealed, and 2950pro will only have 256bit? probably the specs are still going to be changed.

The 2900pro will have 256bit BUT the Limited Edition will have 512bit. See the club 3d package of the 2900pro, clearly says "512MB GDDR3 - 256bit - Dual DVI"

Seems pretty good to me. Sadly the power-consumption is a bit high... but hopefully not as high with the 2950 Pro/XT.

IMO *speculating*
2900 Pro is a lower binned XT
2950 is a redesigned R600, die shrink isn't all they did to it. It's suppose to be as good as a 2900 with less heat, fannage, and electricity. However, rumor has it that the 2950 will have more texture power then the 2900. I am not sure of the gains but it will be nothing like the R700 release late next year. However, the newer video cards should all come with video processing (unlike the fiasco with the R600 release). It's also rumored that the 2950 will replace the 2900 but time will tell if that's true or not. However, it was suppose to be called a R650 aka 2950 so this is all speculation.

Agree with all that and I think where you say the 2950 will have more texture power, I think it will have the same quantity of shader processors/ROP units but they will run faster (one of the strengths of NVidia) where the green side has less but running much faster so to speak.

Thats 295W at load with no friggin overclock!!!!!! So we are talking potentially near around 350W load or even more with a good overclock...........a 525W is gonna struggle with everything else in the system without a doubt, of course if you can call up at least 45Amps then that might be a little difference but by my maths you wont be!

My general rule of thumb is, that if a card needs more than half of your PSU's power then it's too much, just something I usually play by, I had a Hyper 525W until 2 weeks ago, it REALLY struggled with my rig and that was before I voltmodded the 8800GTS. Just my opinion tho, no doubt others may feel differently.

Yes it does but the article states that there is only barebones components in it, no CD/DVD etc etc, add to that overclocks of the CPU and well......you could give it a try, TrT is using an OCZ 600W to run a 2900XT and thats obviously fine with a big CPU overclock but that is a high amperage quadrail.

Lol yes but it's recommended that users have 50-100W to spare as Peak load cannot be maintained by the PSU for prolonged periods otherwise......BANG! many manufacturers specs sheets/ratings refer to peak as opposed to actual ratings, for example my Quad rail has 4 x 18A on the 12V rails, now by my maths that 72A.........beleive me, this PSU cannot push out 72A!! What it actually means is that EACH of the rails can output 18A....it's not saying ALL of the rails can output that at the same time.

Of course I do not know about yours, I am not saying yours wont, I am saying it might not, but if it does it will struggle and personally I dont want a struggling PSU because after time it will go BANG and then that could take your mobo and gfx with it.
