RockItCool Offering Pure Copper IHS Upgrades for Intel, AMD CPUs

RockitCool is a new entrant towards the deliding and IHS replacement game, and the company is offering new delid kits that allow users to replace the Integrated Heatspreader (IHS) on their CPUs in an attempt to achieve better operating temperatures - and potentially improve performance. Considered by some to be one of the most daring quests towards extracting the most performance possible from a given chip, the deliding process is, however, not without its dangers, and will void CPU warranties irrespective of the tool - or care - employed in the operation.

RockItCool's website sprung up earlier this year, and the website doesn't count with many user reviews - but those that are there seem to be glowing. The company specializes in providing complete delid and pure-copper IHS replacement kits, taking advantage of copper's higher thermal conductivity as a way to increase the amount of heat that can be pulled away from the CPU - improving its operating temperatures and power profiles. The copper IHS themselves have guidance markings to ease concerns regarding the application of liquid metal itself, which is a particularly risky substance to misapply around electrical circuitry.





The company claims to have achieved an up to 15º C improvement in operating temperatures for Intel's latest Alder Lake Core i9-12900K, dropping them from around 85° C in full load to 70º C after the IHS replacement (and liquid metal TIM [Thermal Interface Material] upgrade). Those numbers by themselves sound a little bit too good to be true; our coverage of previous delid efforts (some of them led by overclocking legend Der8auer) showcased much minor improvements.

While the latest and greatest processors from both AMD and Intel will always be the most sought-after for aftermarket improvements such as these, the company is also selling kits stretching back all the way to Intel's sixth generation Core designs (Skylake). Just remember - the process is not without its risks.

IHS is allready copper, why not just lap the one on the CPU? Save money, and at the same time get a flat surface.

Fake marketing with the huge temp drops AND pay money for something you already had... Just lap the cpu die along with your cooler and it's the same thing.

This is it right here. I think the copper heat sink is designed for optimal height as well, alongside having a larger area which helps a little bit. Though I will say, having done it with a 9900k, I don’t think the improvements will be huge.

The thing is though in past chips deliding with liquid metal already gave like 15-20c reductions so not sure on their claims but that was also when Intel was still using paste between IHS and die.
They need to show what this IHS does on its own and they also have the ability to strengthen IHS so it doesn't bend so much in the 1700 socket.

PS: when I say strengthen I mean the IHS wall around chip, not the thickness or height.

RockitCool isn't a "new entrant." I've been using their products since 2016. For what it's worth, my own results with delids, IHS replacements, and bare die kits always matched their claims.

Exactly this -- i delided all of my chips with the guacamole in them, and they all ran 20C cooler and all that needed to be done is to cut the rubber glue. But something about baking then using a vice that could also pop surface resistors off the chip doesn't make it worth it. I could probably get this chip to 5.4Ghz if I could get just this IHS off... :/

Can somebody actually verify the things before posting on the website ? Or is this some of that new type of "journalism" which only cares about the click bait ?

PR rehashes and advertorials make up most news on techsites. But it's up to us to filter the crap.

First, I am a RockitCool customer, having delidded a 6700K and two 9900K with their kit. I bought the copper IHS for the first 9900K, but only saw perhaps 1°C improvement. Direct die saw nearly 10°C improvement.

Now, in fairness, how many samples did they test? I believe the liquid metal is what gives the improvement, since the OEM is also copper, albeit nickle plated.

Did they try re-installing the OEM IHS using liquid metal?

I am sure they did not re-solder the CPU using their IHS.

The stock IHS is already (nickel-plated) copper, so this is just for those who wants the absolutely maximum performance. Also I'm pretty sure that the stock tested isn't a stock IHS with liquid metal? But aren't the K SKUs soldered again? At least Ryzens are.

How is this clickbait? Its been proven delid of 12th gen will drop temps by 10c.

A heatsink is a Thermal conductor, the stock solder is a thermal conductor.

More or less, depends on thickness and concentration of heat. The variability is enough to make a 15C difference sometimes.

Neat. Not worth the risk IMO on soldered chips, but neat.
I miss the pure Silver IHSs. Even if a little impractical, if you're going that far, why not all the way?
Maybe someday they'll make an Oriented Allotropic Carbon IHS that beats out Silver.

It works ,!But could be even better , with added slots on the top and a cover part for fluid supply and sealing with a seal. This could be the final product on offer that would definitely improve the efficiency of cooling, good luck because I do not have the funds for such games, but I have such solutions in my head.

Rockit Cool's claims are fair and relatively valid, relative to the job done. I've delidded a 4790K, 7700K, and had Rockit Cool Delid/Relid my 11700K and all have seen at minimum a 10C -12C reduction in temps under load. As much as 19C on my 4790K. All using KPx between IHS and water block and LM under the IHS. The process is not for the faint of heart. Delidding CPUs with traditional TIM show great temp reductions. Delidding CPUs that are soldered also show worthy temp reductions. As long as the delid is a success, the IHS and die are cleaned and polished, LM TIM is properly applied, and the IHS is aligned correctly when relided you will see worthy temperature reduction. Also relative to your cooling solutions ability to wick away heat. With a good water cooling system (never tried air coolers so can't speak on that subject), minimum 240mm AIO and a job well done for those looking to get every ounce of performance from their CPU this process will weld amazing results. Rockit Cool's Cooper IHS will get you an extra 1 or 2C lower but that can be an extra 100 to 300mhz on an overclock. Is it worth it to you for the $ has been for me. 15% more surface area is more surface area to dissipate heat. Direct die is even better most of the time. I have seen cases where temps were worse but they were because mounting tolerances and pressures were not correct and that's a whole other rabbit hole. Long story short if you want to get all you can within your means Rockit Cool, their products, and as well as their services are no joke folks. Don't knock it til you try it.
