AMD Claims Higher FPS/$ Radeon GPU Value Over NVIDIA Offerings

Frank Azor, Chief Architect of Gaming Solutions & Marketing at AMD, has posted an interesting slide on Twitter, claiming that AMD Radeon products possess higher FPS/$ value than NVIDIA's graphics offerings. According to the slide, AMD Radeon graphics cards are the best solutions for gamers looking at performance per dollar ratings and performance per watt. This means that AMD claims that Radeon products are inherently higher-value products than NVIDIA's offerings while also more efficient. As the chart shows, which you can see below, some AMD Radeon cards are offering up to 89% better FPS/$ value with up to 123% better FPS/Watt metric. This highest rating is dedicated to Radeon RX 6400 GPU; however, there are all GPUs included in comparison with up to the latest Radeon RX 6950 XT SKU.

Compared to TechPowerUp's own testing of AMD's Radeon cards and multiple reviews calculating the performance per dollar metric, we could not see numbers as high as AMD's. This means that AMD's marketing department probably uses a different selection of games that may perform better on AMD Radeon cards than NVIDIA GeForce RTX. Of course, as with any company marketing material, you should take it with a grain of salt, so please check some of our reviews for a non-biased comparison.

The poll is pretty biased, you could put any company in the question and my answer would always be no :D

Until they can offer the *nearly* bug-free driver experience of turning on features in various games , then they can continue to waste their breath.

Sure, they added a competitive feature to Fast Sync, but can they offer the wide list of compatible games with zero tearing, all without requiring me to buy a freesync display for every monitor in the house?

There's a grain of truth to that, all the green team competitors are way above the MSRP.. so the performance per dollar on the red side is better. Yet somehow Nvidia sells a lot more.

Well, this claims can be true to some extend if you measure graphics cards value only in FPS.
Otherwise it’s like buying two different cars with different feature sets and comparing them in $ per miles.

Well, TPU reviews I too take up with grain of salt since they are not exactly unbiased too. And if AMD tested with the newest "preview" drivers, they could have gained additional FPS.

it just depends on which card you are looking at. The 3070s are coming way down in price at mst storees

The "mining specials" 3060 with that beefy 12GB multitasking ram will continue to sell until Etherium goes POS, and everything else is about even with their AMD-equivalent.

This EVGA 3050 spanks the 6500XT by 50% when on PCIe 3! (was in-stock most of the previous weekend, and will continue to be resupplied because they bypass the China lock-down.)

Depends on the location too... Here the 3050 is close to the price of the 6600, 3070 close to the 6800xt.

And there's nothing in the price of the Rx 6500 and 6400, just horrible old GPUs like the rx 550/gt 740/750 etc..

I won't even go into the performance difference comparison, but on the other hand maybe in USA the price comparison is representative of the market? (I don't know I'm from Europe, I don't track the street USA prices so closely, USA TPU members will know more)
but in Europe:
Frank, not so frank?

The 6500XT doesn't compete with the 3050. It's direct competitor is the GTX 1650 Super while being cheaper

But I can see a little truth in this. Like the RX 6600 trails the RTX 3060 by 3% but cost $100 less and can be easily found in stock. AMD GPUs currently are cheaper and much easier to acquire than Nvidia

Have you seen FSR 2.0. It is just as good as DLSS.

Well, AMD cards do not burn out when you install a new driver. Or artificially limit your card's FP32 power in drivers. Also AMD has comparable features, often giving even better quality. So, please, stay out of "competent software devs" discussion hell.

Ah, yes! The notoriously stable nvidia drivers! Oh, you can't install them without the spyware but nobody seems to care anyway.

DLSS and FSR are basically the proof that the cards from both sides are not capable enough. Why do we have to resort to upscalers?

Raytracing is more subjective, but I personally don't see much of its appeal. Also, performance tanking hard by merely turning it on is also proof of the current cards weakness. IMO, too much cost for little improvement.

Shadowplay... Well, Nvidia definitely has the upper hand there, I think. Better H264 overall, and comparable to Radeon Relive in h265. Plus it works with full screen OpenGL software, I think (Relive doesn't support this).

Nvidia has competent software devs,
... Pretty sure both companies have bugfixing bullets in nearly all their release notes.

AMD does have slightly better FPS/$
Also, this is variable. In some places they do, in others they don't.

Additionally, if there's no stock it hardly matters.

AMD does have the efficiency crown, though. All their RDNA2 cards are more efficient energy-wise compared to Nvidia's current offerings.

If you look at the perf/$ slides on hardware unboxed, amd is at the top in each product segment. These prices come from amazon/newegg in the US so YMMV.
However if we talk about performance while doing raytracing, i doubt amd would be at the top there

This TBH. As far as I’m concerned, they are are priced absurdly, and I’m waiting on the sidelines for however many years it takes for GPU fab capacity to catch up.
