It appears that ASRock got a little bit too excited and posted a Computex video earlier today that contained a brief glimpse of its upcoming X670E Taichi motherboard. The screenshot that was captured by Wccftech doesn't give away too much details, but the board appears to have at least three M.2 slots and a pair of PCIe x16 slots, of which at least one is meant to be of the PCIe 5.0 variety. The rest of the board is covered in heatsinks and various shrouds. The board will feature Realtek's ALC4082 USB attached audio codec, as well as a ESS ES9218 DAC. It is also said to sport a 26-phase VRM setup. The board is also expected to have Thunderbolt 4 support. The video has unfortunately been taken down, so we'll have to wait until next week to find out more details.

In related news, @momomo_us has leaked details of several upcoming AM5 motherboards, of which four models are from ASRock and two from ASUS. The ASRock models are the X670E Taichi mentioned above, the X670 PG Riptide, X670 Phantom Gaming 4 and the X670 Steel Legend. The two ASUS models are the ProArt X670E-Creator WiFi and the ProArt B650-Creator. Finally Gigabyte has revealed that the company will be displaying its X670 Aorus Xtreme, X670 Master, X670 Pro AX and X670 AERO D at Computex next week. The company mentions PCIe 5.0 for both graphics and the M.2 interface, which pretty much cements the earlier rumors about AMD offering PCIe 5.0 support for the M.2 interface on the AM5 platform.

More options in the DDR5/PCIe 5.0 market, means more products sold, more competition, possibly, but unfortunately lately not surely, (much) lower prices for DDR5/PCIe 5.0 products.

We're already in an age where DDR5 32GB kits reached a 199 USD price tag. This isn't optimal, but IMO if the market can keep this trend, and most of all insure supply, we should be in a great place by late summer

199$ is actually pretty great, considering how new DDR5 is. I can only imagine it plummeting down to 150$ while providing performance better than most DDR4 kits out there.

As for the board, I can only hope they won't be ridiculous in pricing. B650 shouldn't be 200$ for a basic motherboard with crap VRMs and barely any IO like on Z690. B550 was already quite the X570 killer knowing how most people didn't need the extra bandwidth and came a year later, with newer stuff compared to X570 while costing a whole lot less.

I'd love to see that new MCM chipset though, it really is the future especially for IO.

Hmm, a high-end ESS DAC? Although it's not that good, I'm pleasantly surprised. It should be a decent upgrade for many users who rely only on the on-board audio.

That's for 4800MHz kits I'll bet. High quality 32GB DDR4 kits on good motherboards can already do that under rocket lake already with reduced latency of course.

Though it still sucks that they don't support DDR4 too. Points to Intel on that one.

AM5 will be DDR5 exclusive, also do you remember the mess that was AM2+, AM3?
I know. And I remember that AM3 Phenom IIs had support for both types, I have an AM2+ board with 955BE myself.

It is when it shows you the first picture of a new platform/motherboard.
That photo could easily be of an Intel board, there's nothing to indicate it's AMD. WCCFTech have even taken that news post down.

Hmm seems even ASRock are killing connectivity options now.

Their top end model cant even do a simple configuration such as GPU, Capture card, Discrete soundcard, PCI-E m.2 adaptor.

There will be a mess, anyways. Either they introduce boards with hybrid support or they must plan the supply and pricing in advance in order to establish a clear overall image of the situation - are they going to promote cheap old DDR4 AM4 systems or will they invest intensely in transitioning the whole market to the new 5th gen standards.

Does mean lots of cheap DDR4 on the market though

It is funny how the newest CPU-Z 2.01.0 reports dual-channel memory kit as 4x32-bit, as if it was a quad-channel memory configuration... (instead of the former 2x2x32-bit or 2x64-bit):
