The Euro fell sharply this past week compared to US dollar, as did several other currencies. British pound fell even more than Euro.

Sure, the Euro is very weak at the moment, but I was given indications on pricing back at Computex, which I checked recently to see how big of an increase we could expected and it's nowhere near these prices, everything taken into account. I guess it could simply be distributors or resellers (or both), trying to cash in at launch.

I was in the same situation. Had a 3770k and really wanted AM5. The price and the history of agesa issues at launch made it not worth it. I ended up 2 weeks ago buying an open box 12400, h670, and 2x16gb DDR4 all for the combined cost of what the 7600x is going to cost just for the processor itself.

Way better deal, stable platform/bios, and if I want more juice later I'll pick up a 13th gen 13600 or 13700 when they get discounted
good deal yes but don't know what you are talking about regarding AGESA issues, that was a problem with Zen1...
I have a Zen1 system and another Zen3 that I built for cheaps during the last black Friday, all rock solid

Intel actually had multiple issues when releasing these new big.Little arch, kinda requiring the shitty WIndows 11

I hear ya, the one good thing about getting old is learning to be patient. I bet I can out wait the stupid before they can ;)

I've got a novel idea! Let's not start the AMD vs Intel stories just yet.

Ridiculous pricing, gonna have to wait for b650, I'm not paying more than 230e for a motherboard
Compared to 5 years we got out of first gen of AM4 chipsets it seems a standard case of 2 gens of processors. That's if manufacturers choose to support those.

Last gen that will still support 13th gen processors and have same featureset as "next gen" amd

Based on AMD only confirming support until 2025 which is basically 2 gens.

And ridiculius arguments 22,23,24 and 25 are 4 gens not 2.

Who says you have to get a 4000 series card? If you are upgrading from Ivy Bridge almost anything is an upgrade. You can buy hardware that is on sale or even go to the used market. My very modest PC would already be a big upgrade (with the exception of the GTX 980 Ti but you could keep that) to your old PC. If you get an Alder Lake i3 with 16 GB DDR4 it is already a significant upgrade.
I get your point of view that I don't need a 4000 series, but I was hoping Nvidia would release the 4080 at around the same MSRP give or take than the 3080 MSRP since the mining bubble is over, however they decided to significantly jack up the price. I sold my old PC as well as my 980ti so now just having my tablet in the meantime. I'll look for the 3080 now that price is slowly dropping down in Canada... Already bought DDR5 too. I'll wait for tomorrow to see the actual pricing but as you said I might end up with Alder Lake if pricing is as ridiculous as it seems to be.

I was thinking of giving my 5800X and B450 board to my kid, and going to an X570S + 5800X3D vs doing an Alder Lake upgrade. More of a sidegrade in both cases. Now I'm kinda really leaning that way seeing these prices...

(I really wanna upgrade my boy off his i7 920/12GB DDR3/RX 580 for Christmas)

I am pretty sure AMD don't set board pricing, despite what some comments here seem to be suggesting. I expect that AMD is not happy as it will impact sales of their product ie their new microprocessors. It's a shame that there is this sort of informal collusion between board manufacturers as any smart one among them might realise there are loyalty points available for any one of them offering a reasonable price/performance product.

If this is the board pricing then I agree a good Z690 board may be a better option provided Intel don't jack up the prices of Raptor Lake too much. I worry they might.

With x570 the bang for your buck board was the msi tomahawk. I'll hang on awhile until one of those pops up I think.

I wish AMD would release a new AM4 chipset without USB (and other) issues 100% guaranteed out of the box. 5000 series seems to be the last affordable generation as well as the last generation without the MS Pluton spy garbage but it will forever be cursed in my eyes by X470 and X570 with their gremlins. So Intel it will be, I guess, if I ever end up having enough money to upgrade again.

Even more OT but whatever: I was hoping that Mendocino with its Zen 2 cores would at least still come without Pluton but nope, it is infested too, so you really don't get anything to compensate for the outdated cores without mitigations...

Like others have said, these prices are likely bunk. Like the Asus Prime X670-P, that's probably a $250ish MSRP board, even with adding 10% inflation to the $219-$239 that the Z690 version of that board sells for. That stuff simply won't sell at those prices to any but the most well heeled of AMD fans, most would just switch to Intel or stick with Zen 3.

Still have USB issues on my X470/Zen+ system with the latest AGESA. Minor issues when introducing an entirely new architecture (hybrid CPU design with different cores) are to be expected at launch. Furthermore, Windows 11 is not required if you use Linux ;) You are not forced to change anything about your setup on Linux just because you need a newer kernel version with Alder Lake P/E core scheduling support. 2-3 years ago I was thinking I would never buy another Intel CPU in my life (separately or as a part of a computer), now things are very, very different with these AMD (specifically their lousy contractor ASMedia/ASUS) chipset issues, AM5 being DDR5-only with ridiculous pricing, AMD ignoring the low-end and mid-end and introducing the Microsoft Pluton garbage.

Those numbers :D. From 100 people maybe one will buy?
Do not want to go too far off topic so if anyone disagrees that's fine but let's leave it at that but I am becoming more and more convinced that both the economic and political elites in the West have collectively lost their minds and are utterly out of touch with what the common man or woman will and can bear.

hmm your USB issues might be Linux related, never had anything on my x370 nor B550, but in the other hand you don't require Windows 11 so good for you

yeah pricing seems crazy, I anticipated that so decided to build during the last black Friday, getting a 5800X+B550+fast DDR4 for great prices. I'd wait another 2 years before thinking on jumping to DDR5, but buying Intel is like buying VW to me, not an option.

Funny, on my X570. Intel (wifi) has been the only instability that isn't "self-inflicted"

Ether way, there is supposed to be 3 tiers of motherboards bellow this one. Like wow, the early prices of the top E series (E for Extreme pricing) is high. wow, shocked. Immensely, tremendously shocked...

I highly doubt that it is a Linux issue given that USB issues on both X470 and X570 have been widely documented on Windows and the fact that it has kept occurring across different kernel versions and Linux distributions. Glad you got a good deal on excellent (well except for the aforementioned chipset issues) but soon to be "obsolete" :wtf: hardware; I am all for that. DDR5 has zero appeal to me; RAM that needs partial ECC because it runs at ridiculous frequencies, count me out! But yeah, running Linux is pretty great. My desktop essentially looks like a glorified (as in enhanced) Windows 95 with icewm and it does not change unless I want it too. There are no auto updates, telemetry, preinstalled Candy Crush and other garbage or NSA/CIA backdoors. RAM consumption is sane (except for web browsers but that is mitigated with uBlock Origin). Regarding Intel, well, I am hardly their greatest fan. I would never buy their networking cards because I don't trust them and got burned with a 7260 N from China that apparently has some sort of known firmware flaw (at the time I thought it was just a faulty card) and I read that Windows support for that card was also dropped... I will have to consider them though unless ARM and/or RISC-V (SiFive in particular) become serious contenders in the desktop (CPU/motherboard) market. I hear you on VW though but I would add many car makes to that list...

Zen5 will not come until 2024. That leaves 3 generations. Motherboard manufacturers (or AMD) will surely find a way to make us buy a new motherboard, if not in 2024, then certainly in 2025

AM5 will last for as long as PCIe and DDR5 last. In 2026, one or both of those two will already be present in servers, or close to introduction, which means that it will be too late for AMD to come up with "AM5andonehalf".
