Greetings,

As Black Friday is approaching, I want to change both my CPU and motherboard to take advantage of the discounts.

I have two options that I see fit my needs in my gaming situation. In this situation, I also need comments from you, dear Techpowerup members. Therefore, I would be very happy if you share your comments about the compatibility of my current system with this two new hardware.

Motherboard: B560M PRO - MSI Website Link
CPU: Intel Core i5-11400 - Intel Website Link

My Current System without Motherboard and CPU:

GPU: GTX 1070 GAMING X 8G
RAM: Kingston HyperX Fury Red 8GB (2x) 1600MHz DDR3

Bests,

Hi,
Yes ddr3 is not going to work with 11400.
ddr4 needed.

13600K
Z790 (690 is good too but worse memory.
DDR4 32 GB

That or get a i5 12400 if the budget really can't stretch.

Do not buy an 11400.

LMAO, for gaming there's no need for 13600K, even more so when on budget, hell games can't utilize more than 4 cores and 8 threads. 12400 is a great CPU for gaming and basically all you would need. Also for gaming, there's no need for Z chipset motherboard, B series are totally fine. 32 GB of RAm is a lot today and again no need for that much, although some people say that 16GB won't be enough in 2-3 years, which is likely right. You can get 32GB if you want, but you need 16GB.

Games are more and more CPU dependant these days.
Look here:

Core i5 12400F is 12.8% faster than 11400F in games for just a $10 increase. Checked the pricing on newegg.

I wasn't arguing about 11400F, I said that 13600K is pointless in gaming compared to 12400(F), especially for OP, who has GTX 1070. It's not pointless, but rather awful value chip with tiny benefits.

86.3/73.5=17.5% better

1) B660/DDR4+12400F - Best VFM
2) Z790/DDR5+13600K - Best Performer
3) B650E/DDR5+7600X - Best Platform/Best Performer/Best upgradability

I'd go with option 1, if I had to drive it with a 1070.
Even with a more powerful gpu (let's say 3070/4070), you can easily swap the 12400 with a 13600/13700 and call it a day.

Sure, because it's pointless to have options in the future for a gpu upgrade..

What options? So you say that paying 2 times more for faster CPU, which only brings like 20% benefit is worth it? That's just not true and there's always 12600K for "upgrading", not that it will matter after some years, because IPC will not be up to par anymore, same goes to 13600K. This whole "upgrade later" later nonsense should be forgotten as it doesn't make sense and the only aberration was AM4, but then again until AMD fucked it up (even more than AM3/AM3+) and many people were back to upgrade board for new CPU thing.

No, it is 12%.

100/88=1.136, meaning 12400 is 13.6% faster than 11400

88/100=0.88, meaning 11400 is 12% slower than 12400

When does OP plan on a gpu upgrade.

Look for a set of 2x8GB of DDR4 3200MHz.

MSI PRO B660M-A DDR4 3848,23TL

Intel Core i5-12400F 4090,34TL

i5 12400 / 12400F gaming benchmarks.

I may change motherboard with H510M-A Pro 1200. It seems good.

I'm planning to play Darktide, Starfield and so on.

That's intel socket 1200 for 11th gen intel CPU's....

I can't edit my first post, so I would like to make a correction: I want to purchase Intel Core i5 11400F, not Intel Core i5 11400.

Hit up one of the mods they will get you squared away.
You don't have an edit option at the bottom of your post?

Hello,

I purchased i5 11400F and H510M-A Pro, now it's perfectly working.

Thanks for your comments!
