Lite-On IT Expands Monthly Capacity to Six Million Units

Lite-On IT, the largest Taiwan-based maker of optical disc drives (ODDs), expanded its monthly production capacity starting in the second quarter of 2007 from five million ODDs to six million units by the end of September. According to Lite-On's plans, the additional production capacity will be allocated for production of half-height (H/H) burners used in desktop PCs and slim-type models used in notebook PCs as well as DVD-ROM drives for game consoles to meet fast growing global demand. Lite-On IT has dedicated the additional monthly capacity to production of the internal DVD-ROM drive of the Xbox 360, adding that Lite-On IT's monthly shipment volume of H/H burners has reached 2.5-3.0 million units since the third quarter of this year.

reliable ... negative captain .. ive had 2 liteon burners shit the bed in 18 mths ...

where i lie it'd cost me more than teh burner to send it back and recieve teh replacement so i buying another. Dunno why though.

everyone has bad experiences here and there. but lite on is a really good brand of odd's and i have a dvd burner which is use constantly and its been keeping up faithfully, and lite on is my first choice when it comes to odd's

Maybe they're missing caps

Anyway the reason is simple.
Because you don't need an expensive DVD burner to play the latest games.
I think it's one of the few things you can cheap out a bit on in a system.

The Lite on burns faster than my mates ASUS and he only bought it this year.
My Lite on is still brand new though so I'll have to wait and see if it's like my brothers.
Just keeps on going and going.

Wonder what will be the comparison in XBOX360 vs PS3 failures would be seeing XBOX360 uses Liteon drives.

yeah white thread-tape-like thing was hanging out if it ... i pulled it out and it stopped working.

My MSi burner was more rugged, crazy overburns and burnign sessions, cause that time i used to work on a sound system so had to burn a lot of music. hardly burn now. The first one exploded.

hmm white thread... never heard of this before. as for the exploding burner, i dont think the cap plague affected dvd burners much?

I have an 832S that's going strong in my sister's computer (it's a few years old). In mine there is a 1693s that has burned thousands of discs, and the quality that it burns (on good media like verbatim) is higher than a pressed disc.
An old PC I built for a friend has a 411s (flashed to an 811S) and it's still working fine. Plus many others in PCs I built.

But I will have to admit, the reviews that the new drives are receiving are pretty bad and everyone seems to be recommending LG as your cheap, high quality drive nowadays. I really hope they get back on track, though. Nothing like having a $25 burner doing the same thing as a $125 plextor

Lite On has been on a roll making cheap great quality burners that are tops in alot of benchmarks. Ive been thoroughly impressed with them.
