Cristiano Renno Amon, President and CEO of Qualcomm, discussed the successful launch of his company's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 mobile platform during a January 31 Earnings Call—expectations have been set high for the flagship smartphone chipset: "(bringing) a new standard for on-device gen AI experiences for premium smartphones and powers all through flagship Android devices launched and launching this fiscal year." Amon highlighted Samsung's recently rolled out Galaxy S24 Ultra range, that makes use of a special "For Galaxy" Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. Industry watchdogs have continued to question Samsung's reliance on third-party processor solutions (including MediaTek Dimensity parts), despite having access to plenty of "worthy" in-house technology. Their flagship Exynos 2400 chip has been deployed with the Galaxy S24 Plus range, but Qualcomm Snapdragon-equipped devices offer better performance and efficiency.

The picky segment of Samsung's smartphone userbase will be pleased to hear about a renewed agreement between it and Qualcomm, which includes a trickling down to mid-range offerings—Amon made a big announcement during the late January conference call: "We're also announcing that we extended a multi-year agreement with Samsung relating to Snapdragon platforms for flagship Galaxy smartphone launches starting in 2024. The extended agreement demonstrates the value of Snapdragon 8, our technology leadership and our successful long-term strategic partnership with Samsung. In the quarter, we also announced the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 mobile platform, which brings leading gen AI capabilities to high-tier Android smartphones and is a category leader in both experiences and performance." Going forward, Samsung is likely sticking with its current operating model of peppering a mix of Snapdragon and Exynos chipsets throughout its Galaxy Z, S and A product ranges.

Didn't they already??

Didn't they already??

Did what?

The article is pretty dumb itself... especially mentioning Mediatek... those are JDM units with a Samsung badge on them... Rarely who distinct ODM and JDM units for each maker.

snapdragon cpu allready in samsung phones... my s10 has a snapdragon cpu

Because you are in the US. RoW used to have Exynos, with exception for S23 where they royally screwed up and used Snapdragon for regions. S24 is again split. Only Ultra does use Snapdragon. Folds does use Snapdragon also for RoW.

They are only interested in margins, why should they... Make grand PR, give YT stars Snapdragon units and feed the other regions with their in house chip, that has drawbacks, especially in GPU/driver department.

With all this AI bullshit going around, what's the point also... it only fully works for English... so what's the point even having best AI HW... :D. People get hooked up and write about things they don't fully understand.

jeez that's dirty af.... I'm sick of companies putting influencers over paying customers...

Even I was doing the tech influencer thing for a while and I couldn't even stand it myself after a while... had 2 companies that just... broke me... not naming names cuz I know they will come after me hard for it

I knew my stuff while most of these influencers are just nepo babies from the same content mills and agencies that are chosen cuz they fit certain profiles and stereotypes like a movie cast.

I've seen influencer contracts, as they brake their given free units too and can't escape my cold stare. There are many types for them. There are less intrusive ones, where you just post BS on social as much you can and create the artificial feel, bloody everyone major is using it, but those making articles are worst... they would sell their mother for money imho.

The problem is... it screws up the objective judgement prism for any average person. There is hard for an average Joe to understand what's right or not.

Well... at least the device itself ain't that bad really... but that's only the case for Samsung... the only complaint about S24 is that it is boring and same as S23, but there are many things advertised as next best thing since sliced bread, but are an utter crap, especially in mobiles.

yeah phones are the most overhyped tech out there to me I'm ok w my s10 plus and would rather eat good than have an s24 at the moment... I don't even like the idea of having something that expensive get beaten up at my maintenance job... I would be overparanoid w a 1500 dollar phone... even if I had a case on it!

Luckily for me the S23 in Europe came with a nice Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 (4 nm) vs the usually lower performing Exynos....

???

It's got front glass that scratches at Mohs level 7 instead of 6 which means many common things that could previously scratch your phone can't anymore (only smartphone to have this new Corning glass), has the best display of any smartphone on the planet, is made of more durable materials, better battery life, etc. etc.

Was it sarcasm... ? I really hope so.
