OK everyone/anyone
I don't know what happened but after putting this puter together I put XP Media Center on as the OS and it partitioned the HD it by itself and one partition is a NTFS and the other is a FAT32 format.
Any ideas why ?
After POST it boots slow so I'm thinking about wiping it off and installing it again.

Well if the drive was FAT32 to begin with and the XP MC partition was formatted to be NTFS then that would explain it. You can format your second partition to be NTFS, which is what I did after making a 20gb partition for XP, the rest of the drive was FAT32, so I simply right-clicked it in my computer and selected format, set NTFS at default block size and let her rip.

Hope that helps! :toast:

Why split ?

Still haven't reformatted yet, burning files to back-up.
Any ideas on why it partitioned ?
1st half is NTFS @116 Gb and 2nd is FAT32 @ 115 Gb
Never had one do this before

I'm sure I can't explain exactly WHY the Setup program would automatically partition a hard drive that was not already partitioned, but having that second part. in FAT-32 can't help but be a real plus. I regularly set up a second partition for my customers who run XP or even Vista. It's a great place to copy all your Doc's, etc. for easy access in case of an OS foul up that prevents a normal boot. A FAT-32 partition can easily be accessed from a DOS boot disk.

Try it for a while and see if you don't see my point.

Good Luck,
The Shadow

I wasted my time burning a copy of the files I had, I burnt them because I was going to delete the partition. I took Media Center off and put just XP PRO on and left partition alone just how it was but it still bugs me because I don't know how or why it's on there to start.
