Benchmark Scores It does boot up? I think.
IMO things at AMD graphics don't look good.
R600 was taped out in october 2005 (= architecture was finished), the chip was released in may 2006. Now, 6 months after the release all they can offer is a 2% performance increase from a derivate chip with an almost indentical architecture, an architecture they have had 2 years to polish.

WHAT GIVES?

...

And it seems they exaggerated HD2900XT's power consumption to promote HD38_0's...
R600 certainly does not draw 200W, max is ~175W.

I bet once someone buys one of these he'll trade you readily enough!

Anyway, as always, YMMV on OCs, and your warranty has often been voided. (see manual)

BTW- Spoon- the other thread was closed, but the reasons you don't let cats run free no matter where you live are:
1. You're likely violating leash laws.
2. It's not safe for your cat, as you found out.
3. Your cat can get diseases and parasites.
4. It's not considerate to neighbors when your cat uses their kid's litter box to take a dump.

If you're talking about me, which of the seven points I brought up that show why this card is not "splooge worthy" do you disagree with?

<crickets chirp>

you inferred that on your own.

Let's put it this way- when AMDs own PR slides show their new flagship product, that was already being owned by a $250 8800GT, only has a significant performance gain on ONE of six games they tested, you know it's a pooch.

http://forums.vr-zone.com/showthread.php?t=202465

AMD PR slides are the best possible benches you'll ever see on these cards.

The only guys who will be "splooging" on these are submissives who like abuse.....

Yeah OK, I think it's bad that they compare it to a 8600 instead of an 8800. But, then again, these are "pre-release" drivers and everyone knows that it takes a bit for the drivers to catch-up regardless of which company makes the card.
So, I'll reserve my judgement untill the official release of the card with proper drivers.

they are comparing teh 3850 to OC'ed 8600 gts', and teh 3850 dominates ...

in the end the compare a 3870 to a 2900XT.

but from what im seeing there doesnt look to bad, looks like someones interprettive skills need a slight polish ... may be mine but whatever, i dont behave liek a video guru ...

I wish that AMD/ATI would just upgrade those pixel pipelines to 24 already like nVidia has had since the 7 series or even 32 :shadedshu

Only Die shrink from 80 nm to 55nm. The specs still looks the same 2900xt. But if the price is right, then it's a tempting product.

I think the 3850 is gonna cool like dick. The 3870 has a dual slot cooler and only 10w higher power comsumtpion. Probably comes near 80C...

1. No we are not, its perfectly leigal to let you cats run wild, dogs its not.
2. in my 28 years of life we have never b4 had a cat harmed, we have had 2 dissapear due to wild dogs/bobcats/cougers, but thats a fact of living where the wild animals roam.
3. we worm out animals every few months, never had anything but worms and the cats see the vet a couple times a year and get shots.
4. our neiboars ALL like our cats, they dont like the lady 2 houses overs cats due to her having like 14 of them that shit in flowerbeds and spray doors and such(unfixed males.....eww)

and stop trolling.

dude, at least ati drivers/hardware dont go apeshit in windows x64 sp2/server 2003 sp2 due to SHITTY programing by the driver team unlike nvidia cards, look up the PTE error thats been around since the 7 seirse maby earlyer

and i couldnt give less of a shit about crossfire or sli, they are not even on my radar as a reasion to buy a product.

one thing i can say for sure is that nvidias driver support on videocards has gone way down hill since the gf4 seirse, and they dont seem to be getting better, this is an OLD issue if you google around, and guess what, THEY NEVER FIXED IT.

oh and if you look the 3870/3850 are WAY underclocked, people are getting what clocks out of 2900xt's now? i have seen reports saying as high as 900 core on 80nm cores......humm, then u see 600 range on the cores of a 55nm core.......yeah sure they cant do any better ROFL........

we are overclockers and tweakers, we dont give a crap about "stock" perf if the overclocking room is enought to give us a nice performance boost.

nvidia must have payed somebody in ati very well to insure the clocks would be very low by default on the 3800 cards.

now when is a mod gonna come slap this troll?

Issues about drivers. After owning a card from Nvidia before(7600gs), I'd say Nvidia say the better driver. Issues with ATI drivers
-Specific driver issues with some cards(some people had to use older drivers even if newer ATI driver came out.
-agp compability issues still exist with 1950 agp,
-CCC is a crap (a memory hog/ pc boots a little slower)
-washed colors on Vista issues.
-Have to try a new driver every month for more optimized performance (good or bad?)

That's just what I can think off. As for Nvidia, Not sure enough what issues with newer cards and Vista, but the previous drivers from Nvidia for XP has been flawless for me that is.

But like I said before if the price/performance of the 38XX series is good, then it's really tempting.
