I don't see the QX9650 available anywhere for purchase yet...

$1000+ for an E chip???

I was going to say the same thing Dan. These are their server Xeon parts. I suspect the desktop penryns to come in at alot lower prices to compete with AMD.

This is most likely the availability to OEMs. I wouldn't expect to see them out on the actual market for a few days.

Yes but aren't they all Xeons? So what's so hot shit about the 5472?

No, the top one is a desktop part. Don't let the E in E5472 fool you. They don't use the same naming scheme as the desktop parts. E doesn't mean dual-core, it means Energy Efficient. The E5472 is a Quad-Core part clocked at 3.0GHz with 12MB of L2 Cache and a TDP of 80w. The X5472 has the same specs, but has a TDP of 120w.

In the desktop world the first letter signifies how many cores is has. E****=Dual Core Q****=Quad Core

In the server world the second number(third digit) signifies how many cores it has. **2**=Dual Core **4**=Quad Core

No, L is the energy efficient one, ie L > LV > low voltage
No clue what the E means, but it's basically the middle segment where the X is the higher segment (including higher TDP)

Well all the other QX's (9770/9775) are not available until January 2008, here is a roadmap of all desktop CPU's currently planned with release months and "estimated" cost as well as multiplier, cache and stock frequencies etc.... should anyone find it useful to see what lovelies are going to be on offer soon...there is some nice looking goodies out there!

i take it xeon wont fit in our normal 775 boards and work?

let the banjoman correct me if im wrong but these xeons will use skt 771?

I can have a 2.0Ghz Yorkfield-based Xeon for 200$??

Let me guess.. It's socket 771, right? Crap.
