AMD today released a preview driver that provides optimization for a couple of new games, and fixes a few issues. Preview Driver version 24.20.11.01 adds optimization for "God of War: Ragnarök," "Frostpunk 2," and the DirectX 11 mode of "Sims 4." It also extends Radeon Boost support for "Final Fantasy XVI." HYPR-Tune support is extended to "Black Myth: Wukong," "God of War Ragnarök," and "Creatures of Ava." HYPR-Tune now autoconfigures Anti-Lag 2 in "Ghost of Tsushima Directors Cut."

The drivers also address intermittent driver crashes when playing "Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2," including crashes when loading maps on RX 5000 series GPUs. Driver crashes on "Final Fantasy XVI" have also been fixed. The bug that causes overly dark shadows in "Black Myth: Wukong" with medium-high global illumination settings, has been fixed. AV falling out of sync during AV1 codec playback has been fixed.

This has been an issue for a while glad to see they finally fixed it.

What is the difference between WHQL and preview driver?

What is the difference between WHQL and preview driver?
In most cases preview and WHQL are the same. WHQL is Microsoft certified. WHQL is a Microsoft facility that provides testing services for hardware and drivers to ensure compliance with its operating systems.

Had this since updating, glad they've fixed it, I'll wait for the general release however instead of this game specific one

Welcome to 2009, The Sims 4. Crazy to me that a game that came out in 2014 didn't release with DX11, or at least wasn't patched at some point between the 71 DLC packs it currently has. I guess that's not surprising giving the exploitative nature of The Sims series.

Why did it need DX11? What feature is missing? Why glaring issue is there from it not running on DX11?

The Sims was designed using the same game engine as the Sims 3, and designed to run on low spec PCs, and in the early 2010s there was a LOT of dx9-10 hardware out there.

Why does any game need any better direct X support? DX11 had better multi-threading support, tessellation and direct compute. The game will now run better on literally any lower spec PC's built between 2014 and now specifically because of DX11. It's not surprising that it didn't come out with DX11 (even though it easily could have had DX11 support at the time). The fact it took 10 years for them to bring DX11 support, after 10 years of 70 DLC packs is the ridiculous part, not that it didn't initially didn't have DX11(which it should have had considering the amount of money the franchise made on 1, 2 & 3).

Imagine playing Playing City Skylines 2 on DX9..

Exploitative nature? Homie, nobody is forcing anyone to buy said DLC - some of us Simmers go crazy and buy every expansion, game and stuff pack. Others just buy whatever pack(s) interest them the most. It's always been that way with The Sims franchise -- buy what you want, skip what you don't. But I wouldn't say there's anything "exploitative" about it.

My understanding is DX11 support was added more as a QOL issue than anything else. Sim animations are smoother and gameplay itself feels a lot snappier, even if you have a crapton of mods installed like I do (5+ GB worth :D:laugh: )

I haven't played any of the franchise since 1, but from what I understand, 4 essentially added little to the table, and little that 3 couldn't have been updated to handle.

At this point though, there's nothing much wrong with 4. It's been out for a long time, and there's not really an alternative. Just seems like they could've come out with a DX11/12 update a bit sooner than 10 years and $1,100 worth of DLC into development.

WHQL is tested and certified by Microsoft. Preview isn't (yet). Other than that, there's no difference.

Awesome! I'm downloading it now. :)

AMD self certifies, Microsoft isn’t involved. Same with Nvidia and Intel.
