Google is developing an advanced AI system capable of autonomously operating web browsers and controlling computer functions, according to recent reports. Codenamed "Project Jarvis," this technology is expected to debut alongside Google's upcoming Gemini large language model this December. The AI-powered system aims to transform everyday online tasks by handling everything from complex research projects to routine shopping activities. Unlike traditional AI assistants that operate within confined parameters, Project Jarvis would have direct control over browser functions, enabling it to navigate websites, fill forms, and execute commands independently. The development follows a broader industry trend toward AI systems with expanded capabilities, with Anthropic recently demonstrating similar technology allowing AI models to execute tasks directly on users' computers.

For businesses, such advances could simplify operations by automating repetitive tasks and increasing productivity, while individual users might benefit from delegating time-consuming activities like price comparisons or travel bookings to an AI assistant. However, this level of system access raises significant security and privacy concerns. Granting AI systems direct control over personal computers creates new security challenges requiring robust safeguards. Unrestricted access to users' systems could create new vulnerabilities, potentially enabling sophisticated cyberattacks. This heightened risk necessitates extensive security testing and robust safeguards before the technology can be deployed with confidence.

Uhhh… how about no? I know that it might seem like a very cool and advanced thing to normies, but surely tech enthusiasts won’t see at as a good thing? There is a reason there’s a joke about us keeping a hammer right next to an old printer in case it decides to rebel.

Certainly I would love an AI to take over my shopping, fill in forms using my credentials and ordering stuff. That's all I have ever dreamt of. In my worst f***ing nightmare that is.

I am already pre-occupied enough to keep Co-Pilot and Re-Call from functioning correctly on Windows 11. :banghead:

Ah, the malware writers will love this.

Stuff like price comparisons and document generation can be done server side and have to reason to be on a client computer.

And look who's developing it - Gee, you can trust them to have control over your PC.... Right?

Ah, the malware writers will love this.
You know it!
Creating AI-based malware that's so smart it will constantly improve all on it's own so you'll never be rid of it.

This is an insult to Iron Man's Jarvis.

One step closer to being self aware.

Fixed that for you.

This isn't a Linux thread, please stay on topic.

-cough- Mr Lynx.

I'm very capable of screwing up things on my own. I don't need some virus "AI" program doing it for me.

Maybe computing will be "safer" for the masses, just like self driving cars decreases the risks supposedly.

Once Google finds all the Infinity Stones, then their work can be completed.

Ohhh, silly you! Work done server-side comes out of the company's pocket. As you know, hardware, cooling and electricity don't come cheap. :p
Instead they will create a need for your computer to include a new chip, which you will pay for, and do the processing there, which you will also pay for.

:pimp:

EDIT: And don't worry about them not getting your data, because they will. The only difference is what it'll cost them, which is less.

Madness... Why would anyone use such tool with its own data?

Brave works great on Mint Cinnamon, I have that installed too. You just go to their website, copy and paste the below into the terminal, and hit enter

sudo apt install curl

sudo curl -fsSLo /usr/share/keyrings/brave-browser-archive-keyring.gpg https://brave-browser-apt-release.s3.brave.com/brave-browser-archive-keyring.gpg

echo "deb [signed-by=/usr/share/keyrings/brave-browser-archive-keyring.gpg] https://brave-browser-apt-release.s3.brave.com/ stable main"|sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/brave-browser-release.list

sudo apt update

sudo apt install brave-browser

yes, lots of older games work on Linux Mint Cinnamon - you just have to remember to enable 'Compatibility' mode which turns on proton, its easy to find in the steam settings on linux. it's very similar to steam on windows, but there is an extra option in settings, you will see it
And that is best explanation why Linux is atill in single digits marketshare...

So, can this complete CAPCHAS? Not a lot of use if it can't, with how ubiquitous they are now.

That would remove a LOT of barriers to things like spam, scams, DDOS, etc.

Good luck, internet.

First thing it will do will be disable uBlock Origin.

6000th post, woohoo!

So the company that started as a search engine is writing a piece of software that does what exactly? It uses your PC for you? Opens your browser? Searches your PC?

If anything this shows how stupid we are as a species.

I imagine it can open Chrome, and conduct a search, get served ads, and make more revenue for Google. Even if the human is nowhere near.

So ads will become:
A. Cheaper
B. More prevalent, or
C. Nonexistent

None of which will be a good thing. A LOT of stuff (even TPU!) is funded by ads that we take for granted, so if the reason for internet ads goes away then a lot of "free" stuff does too.

What is point of serving ad to AI? Unless is also going to chose my next phone and my vacation for me
And when somebody chooses for you where you go, what you eat and so on... It is called... How was it... Oh, I remember. Prison. Gulag.

Because Google is serving the ad and gets paid for serving ads, and the ad does not know if it is being served to Jarvis or Aleksandar 038. So Google can make advertisers pay them more money with no effort.

Jarvis be a dear and make me a aimbot or even better get me 99th percentile and be better than all the other bots ok.
