abit today announced their latest AMD 770 chipset-based motherboard, the abit AX78. This is abit's first motherboard with native support for AMD Phenom quad-core processors delivering best performance for true quad-core processors, HyperTransport 3, Dual Channel DDR2 1066 memory, PCI Express 2.0 and CrossFire X. The unique abit engineered features set you apart from others and warrant for a most advanced computing experience with abit's patented Silent OTES heatpipe, 4-phase PWM for AM2+ processors, 100% Japanese made capacitors for lasting durability and the external EZ CCMOS switch to reset your BIOS without the need to open your computer case. Set yourself apart with most advanced computing.

With AMD's latest Phenom FX processors you get true quad-core computing power through the implementation of four cores on one silicon. An increased L3 cache shared by all four cores allows for quickest access of your most accessed data. Native support for dual channel DDR2 1066 memory modules in combination with the latest HyperTransport 3 bus technology, which can reach an overall peak datatransferrate of up to 20.8 GB/sec., are only the most outstanding new features for AMD processor based platforms. This is the best foundation for ultimate performance in a megatasking environment.

For high-end gaming and visual performance the abit AX78 is equipped with two PCI Express 2.0 x16 slots (1 x16, 1 x4 bandwidth) supporting ATI CrossFire X dual graphics. For further upgrades with add-on cards, one additional PCIe x1 und three PCI slots are provided for. The integrated high definition audio is scalable up to 7.1 channels for a fully cinematic surround sound soundscape. Supporting a total of 10 USB 2.0 ports of which 4 are already accessible through the back panel the user has sufficient connectivity for other multimedia devices of all kinds.

abit SoftMenu
The complicated procedure of tuning or even just adjusting the BIOS settings frequently gives users a hard time. With this ease-to-use BIOS-based interface, you have direct access to all major system parameters.

External CCMOS Switch
You are able to clear the CMOS memory directly from the back panel, using abit's innovative new EZ switch. If you are pushing your hardware to the extreme and experiment with risky settings, you do not need to open the computer case to go back to save grounds.

abit Slient OTES
The abit patented heat pipe absorbs and conducts heat from the NB to a special heatsink at the PWM area where the airflow from the CPU fan rapidly exhausts the heat from the computer case.

4-Phase-PWM
On the abit AX78 motherboards, abit provides 4-phase-PWMs. With 4-phase-PWMs, the system is providing better power supply and increased stability. Moreover, each phase is composed of one high-side MOS and two low-side MOS. This design adds to a better power switch efficiency.

PWM Heatsink
To provide end-users with the best and the most stable system environment, abit designed a dedicated heatsink on the PWM area. Generated heat is efficiently dissipated and the system remains cool and stable all the time.

color scheming aside, its sounds like a tasty motherboard. biggest gripe I have is the 1x16 and 1x4 pcie x16 slots. How can you call them 2x 16x pcie slots when they both dont run in those configurations.

im very anxious to see their 790 and 790FX chipset boards.

From AMD, the 770 chipset is only supposed to give you 1x16x pci2.0 slot. The fact that they have two, regardless of the speed of the second one, is a pretty nice feature. As you say though, this shouldn't be the case on a 790X version of the board.

Also, I agree, this is pretty ugly looking. I still want to see some 770 boards for sale under $100, though. Anyone know any place selling the biostar 770A2+ motherboard?

i think msi and gigabyte got better boards like they use AMD 780X chipset with 1 PCIe x16 or 2 PCIe x8

790FX boards are the best ones :respect:

board does not look very appealing, it looks like an ancient board that you stuck some random heatsinks on. doesn't appear to be very flashy and feature full. seems like a plain oem mobo. hopefully the famous saying "dont judge a book by its cover" holds true. hopefully it'll perform a lot better then how it looks.

just me 2 cents..

yet another Motherboard that has No Inspiration, yet Abit is releasing IX48 which is Enthusiast class, this board looks like what Asus uses for the Yellow Color boards.
