Windows Vista could be hit by more than 40 security vulnerabilities next year, as its market share increases to the point where hackers start to take notice, according to a McAfee analyst. "Most of the current malware has ignored Vista," said Craig Schmugar, a threat researcher at McAfee's Avert Lab, but that's not because the operating system has been secure. Concisely, we reported on Monday that Windows Vista nears 8% market share which means hackers will soon start to write more and more malicious software for the DX10 OS as it becomes more popular.
As Vista gains in adoption, it then impacts malware authors and forces them to focus attention on finding vulnerabilities, or to alter their social engineering techniques to accommodate it
Schmugar said.

does this mean that the amount of attacks on xp based systems will decrease?

i'd hope so :) im still not switching to vista for a while

Me either. If MS are lucky I will adopt their next OS, if its any good. If not, I'll either stay with XP (but moving to 64bit version) or get down an dirty with a FREE OS or Linspire.

Isn't it an open secret that the sources of malware usually are those who create anti-malware so that their products sell?

not really lol thats a little pessimistic btarunr

XP 64 bit as soon as i get a new rig and find a torrent :p

While humorous to think about, there has never been any evidence to prove it's anything more than people making up the same kind of shit they always make up. I think there are enough people writing malware for their own purposes to keep most the Corps busy.

I think they are going to do it...as long as those lab reasearchers don't figure anything out that will stop them...:nutkick:

Lets hope that a years worth of security updates will have helped it with sidetracking the hackers for a certain amount of time.

And whoever said that as more people migrate to Vista that the other previous OS's are more secure thats a flat out lie in fact whenever I download an update on my lappy it is usually also for a vulnerability in not only Vista but also XP, and even 2000, and the order if importance to download the update increases as you go to a further older OS. So in fact even if you don't like Vista it still has the best security around in the Windows platforms, no matter how much you may hate the user account control switch it will become a lot more handy once these hackers start hacking into Vista so yay for security in OS's though we still need a better solution for Using Windows without hacksers being able to gain control of your computer.
