I purchased Asrock 350 motherboard. Purchased AMD Ryzen 1500 X chip and cooling fan to go with it. Purchased EVGA GT 640 graphics. Bought matched pair Xpg DDR4 2666(16) 4GX8 MEMORY STICKS. Thought I knew what I was doing. Long story short, alas I was humiliated. I found out I knew absolutely nothing.
I put it all together and I have no display of which I cannot check Bios version, or do any corrections. Have checked ll connections, tried removing one memory stick. I don't know what to do now.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I chose this part of the forum as I figured this was the proper area. Do I need a new chip? Different memory?? Please help.

Hello and welcome to TPU forums !:lovetpu:

Does your computer even power on? When you press the power button, is there any reaction, like fans spinning up?
Also, do you have previous experience of building a PC?

yes it does. Power light on front of case. GEVGA GT640 light comes on. Computer stays running for about 30 seconds and then restarts. All cooling fans are running. No no beep from motherboard, no lights on motherboard. Have removed 1 stick of memory and the CMOS battery. Still no display.

Could You add specific of what motherboard it is?
add what powersupply You are using.
And can You post pictures of the system with ram configuration shown on picture, and picture of back of the computer with all cables attached?

I have had experience in replacing parts of systems, bringing them back from dead, but never built one from scratch. Thats where I guess I got to big for my britchs. Everyone has got to learn sometime. I'm still learing.

Motherboard is ASRock AB350 Pro4/A/ASRK. the other is pic's I hope they address what you need.

How do I do that if I can't see what I am doing?
Do you have any other video card to try out? Some models can work in either UEFI or legacy (CSM) mode.

Or maybe other ram stick to test out? and You have mounted the ram in slot a2 (page 6 from the manual)? https://download.asrock.com/Manual/AB350 Pro4.pdf
And slots for power I mean slot 1 and slot 7 from the page 6 from the manual are connected?

I was asking about the ram If You've got it placed on good slot.
And there was a problem, cause sometimes Ppl plug in video out in to the motherboard instead of gpu, but it's not Your case :).

I tried a GEForce 980GT and it made no change at all. The only thing in this unit so far is a hard drive (bootable) and a ASUS CD drive and a SD card reader and burner.
I have read that if I clear the CMOS by moving the jumper (item 19 on page 6 of manual) iot might work. Doesn't say weather to leave it on after you touch the two pins. Any ideas?
How would I go about adding UEFI support on to the board if I can't get to see anything?

You'd have to update the video card's BIOS with a UEFI compatible version, on a separate computer that supports legacy/CSM mode. Alas, I see no BIOS files for download on EVGA's site for the GF 600 series.

Did you use any of the cards before to confirm that they actually work?

Bear in mind that both the GT640 and the even older 9800GT are very dated and weak GPUs at this point in time. And neither will be supported in Windows 11.

Your best bet may be purchasing a modern card that fits your budget. Alternatively, buy a CPU with integrated graphics.

You may look up UEFI gop mode first. Microsoft has pages about it also.

It's classic, I've had a lot of problems with pc and sometimes just rebuilding it was best option, and there where many times that I did something and even did not know what, and it worked :D.
(And sometimes just leaving everything on desk and going to sleep was best option :D )
I'm glad that Your system is running :),
