you missed the under 400 part, right?

no i didnt, its about wasting $ on sub par components and ending up spending $ for no real improvement from the performance he has right now.

everything will be bottlenecked so its only wasting $ to only get a slight increase in performance.

im saying spend $0 keep what you have till you save $600 then sell your system for $400 and take that $1000 and build a new system from the ground up.

i pizzed away $400 on a system doing just what he is trying to do and after $400 down the drain i couldnt tell the difference in the computer speed. been there done that, sold the asrock motherboard and the q6600 is sitting on my desk waiting for my next build.

just hold off on the video card, until you save up some

I'm still waiting to see what card I'm gonna get.

You could get that mobo and a cheap processor from AMD. It supports their new quad core processors as well. You could use your AGP card and from what Ive read on the net so far it has full X16 pci-e slot.

Its a good idea if your not a big overclocker, considering you have a upgrade path for the future and all with it.

I read some of the thread, and go for it! I'm gonna support Mussels and say the P5K-e is a great mobo! I've got the e2180, and it's not that much more than the e2140, but allows for higher OC's. On stock volts, I've got mine running at 2.8 ghz, and that's without tweaking ANYTHING. Today I'm gonna go crazy with it and see how far it goes. Go for the e2180 and the P5K-e!

that mobo is a rip off! and yes the uk does have p35-ds3l cos i bought one from Scan yesterday for £56 and its a beauty for that price!

http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=661326

thanks for the imput, i would hate to have recommended a bad board. (edited previous post)

i never saw the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3 so i thought it was just the euro version of the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L.

by the way, whats wrong with it that makes it so different from the other boards?

i was refering to the DS3 not the DS3L (in reference to your comments on it) so what is it about the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3 that is bad when the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L and the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R are such great boards

sounds good, all but the mobo.

So what would be the best option for overclocking ? I can't spend too much on the mobo, £60 - £70 max and would like it to do all the stuff my p4p800 does, vcore, vdimm, vchipset, etc ....

really ?? my x1950xt and northy @ 3.7 woops the pants of my m8s 8600gts and prescott @ 4.1, he struggles to run bioshock in 1280*1024 !! and as for the 2600xt .... well ..... it's a 128 bit card no?

I have an x850xtpe pcie to use until I can afford a nice card in the new year and was thinking geforce 9800gtx in Feb or something, should have a few ton for a gpu by then.
