World of Warcraft's community continues to grow, recently hitting a new high of 10 million subscribers around the world. Interest in the award-winning massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) has remained high in all regions, with thousands of new and returning players signing up through the holiday season. World of Warcraft now hosts more than 2 million subscribers in Europe, more than 2.5 million in North America, and approximately 5.5 million in Asia. "It's very gratifying to see gamers around the world continuing to show such enthusiasm and support for World of Warcraft," said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. "We're always pleased to welcome new players to the game, and we're looking forward to sharing the next major content update with the entire community in the months ahead." Since debuting in North America on November 23, 2004, World of Warcraft has become the most popular MMORPG around the world. It was the bestselling PC game of 2005 and 2006 worldwide, and finished behind only World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade, the first expansion pack for the game, in 2007. In addition to being the bestselling PC game of 2007 in both North America and Europe, The Burning Crusade holds the record for fastest-selling PC game of all time, with nearly 2.4 million copies sold in its first 24 hours of availability and approximately 3.5 million in its first month.

10 million players, ZERO community. Which incidentally is what drove me away from the game alltogether. Makes me miss the community on RK1 Atlantean in AO.

Try an RP server and join a mature guild.

...and not "mature" as in porn.

I tried a RP server(friends were on it).... their are way too many immature people to discount the fact you are in a guild with mature people. :shadedshu

As you can see by my Xfire thing (and the fact i am an unemployed soon-to-be-student bum) I have found this 'community' in WoW, a great bunch of people. Shit, I even randomly stumbled across someone who lives in my town.

You ignore the dickheads, and you just keep an eye out for the mature minded people to play with. Still, 10 million subscribers and the servers still suck. But at least the money has basically given Blizzard and Vivendi a strong market place, and for a developer like Blizzard that makes such awesome games in quality not quantity, that is a good thing.

I have to second that - I was on RK2 from the start, and every MMO has been a letdown since cutting my teeth on AO (even though they ultimately killed AO with the constant nerfs and expansions i.e. grind-tastic content)

AO was pretty hardcore the first year or 2. W0W is like petting puppies in comparison. EVE is also a truly hardcore MMO, but I just don't have the time to commit to it anymore.

Besides working on Starcarft II ,they are also rumoured to be work on 5 or 6 other titles.Including another MMO Title,My money is on one based on Diablo series. Something a bit more hardcare than world of warcraft. Something with a mature rating. Time will tell :)

I'm going to post the exact intro from my organic chemistry teacher on our syllabus:

Hello!

My name is Dr. **** **** and I was a chemistry major in college. I grew up in Illinois. I went to undergraduate college in Normal, Illinois, at Illinois State University. Then I got my PhD in physical chemistry from the University of New Orleans in New Orleans, Louisiana. I graduated in 1993 and I've been teaching in college ever since.

I've been married for 10 years and my husband is Mr. ****...but not the Mr. ****. We have 3 big dogs (I'll show you pictures), and somewhere in the neighborhood of 7 outside cats... and no, we don't want any more cats.

Outside of class time, I like to play World of Warcraft. I have a level 64 priest on Smolderthorn. For the Horde! She's been at level 64 for a year, because I got sidetracked with Blood Elves when the Burning Crusade expansion came out. Your turn!

First question I get after I have to explain to people what the mini diablo is is "how many 70's do you have??". Its just a game not my life.
That does explain why even now lvling up a character there are always soo many noobs.

WoW: not super impressive graphics, not hard, not WOW but its what the masses want. LoL

WoW truely is a good game. Out dated graphics aside, it proves that good games aren't graphic dependent (goes for pretty much every Blizzard game). The problem with WoW is it is the same thing over and over, with different dungeons. I have a 70 hunter, but the game just simply gets OLD.

10 million people disagree with you, I'm guessing 7 million would strongly disagree. I would hate to have to disagree with 10 million people.
