Apparently, the RIAA doesn't feel like ISPs blocking piracy server-side is quite enough. The RIAA wants ISPS to begin implementing client-side filtering. This would work by forcing the end-user to install a program that monitors their every move, to ensure that nothing is illegal. It is very unlikely that such a move will actually come into play, because it is a massive violation of privacy and a huge breach of user rights. The RIAA feels that it would all be worth it, because it would let users that wouldn't otherwise know they're getting in a lot of trouble pirating stuff that they are, indeed, pirating.

#1) I thought we already had this (it's called Windows Vista).

#2) Good look with the Linux client, RIAA guys -- let me know when you have it done.

Eh, I wouldn't be too quick to think that.... There may always be a way around things for the people that know how, but they will crack down harder and harder on the people that don't and start busting them quick.

Wow, and I thought they were out of their minds before...
this is a huge nail in their(riaa's) own coffin; as much as i don't like politicians, i can't see many standing for this.

If this ever happens (which it won't, users would rather be without internet access than install something that restricts what they can do even more than they're already restricted, unless they're completely ignorant), you can bet that the software would be circumvented faster than you could say "RIAA should die".
The thing is, I'm certain the RIAA is doing all of these controversial things, to get people's attention away from the smaller, subtler changes they're making in the background. Which when we realise them, will be too late, and we'll have no liberties and rights.
It really is the "boiling frog" scenario.

Anyhow, RIAA has plenty of egg on their faces at the moment anyhow, so they have to do something to save face

The only way I could see this system benefiting people is if this could reduce use of something useful, like cutting down on child pornography, or spam, or anything else that's a much larger concern for public welfare, rather than the welfare of the big corporations out there.

They won't as long as we keep our guns. If the people of the US give up that right, the government will run roughshod over them. This is why we have the second amendment.

Guns and hackers FTW!

well we already know the riaa guys are morons... so simplest of solutions should work... but just in case

internets--computer 1--computer 2

computer 1 probably a linux box simply to stream data from internets to computer 2 but yet there program can sit on computer 1 all it wants... computer 2 well thats where the pirated stuff is of course..... now when they never accomplish implementing it i laugh... but just in case someone with more experience make up better method xD

2 words; Privacy laws.

republicans are doing the best they can to destroy our privacy laws, its getting more and more clear if we want freedom the US is quick becoming a place we wont want to be if things stay headed the way they are headed......

they wont get this to happen but they may manage to pass a law that all routers sold in the US for home use have to have some kind of software like this installed, and even force ISP's to requier them to connect to the net, if that happens im sure people will hak it or just setup smoothwall routers......

Simply solution, have your car broken into while on a hunting trip. Report 3 of your guns stolen. Then they are off your record. They still know you bought them, but they will see they were "stolen", you have a clean slate and can keep your guns! Yay!

I'm not worried about the RIAA. Before the client software is even released, there will be hacks or workarounds on the torrents.

As for gun control, I am for it. Here is how it works ...
Pull gun.
Aim with a steady hand.
Pull trigger slowly and purposefully.
Practice often.

You will then have good control over your gun.

Majority of People will switch ISPs just so they can find other ways to stream media, Also RIAA wont be able to shut down ISPs just because they dont filter out stuff, and Clientel will cancel their Accounts if they are forced to install software that is unwanted.
