What do you want to know man? What PCIe is? If you do it's just AGP's replacement, it has double the lanes/bandwidth of AGP 8x. But that's just PCIe x16. PCIe X1 is....uhh... I have no idea what it's advantage is over PCI (actually there are plenty of disadvantages like not much compatibility and placed in akward spots under the PCIe x16's).

Storage controllersand Gbit NIC's for example love to have more bandwidth. Sure PCI-X offers enough bandwidth though you hardly find PCI-x on desktop boards. So basically PCI-e brings high performance networking and storage to the desktop.
Also PCI-e is bidirectional which allows writes and reads at the same time which could in theory double the performance.

You can have a long discussiona bout if it's needed or not, the fact remains that PCI and AGP are being replaced no matter what, luckily PCI will coexist for a while.

Lol.

I would like to see a use for PCI-E X1. I feel the three slots on my board are a complete waste.
