It is strong enough to play videos on, the Eee PC is strong enough, so this should be.

It has a Celeron 900Mhz CPU whit factory reduced speed to 630Mhz and an intel GMA900 graphic architecture (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ASUS_Eee_PC)

So if they make it stronger maybe we have a cheap media player but the 701 model is too slow for that!

The new BIOS corrects the underclocking issue, or you can use SetFSB to set the processor back to 900MHz with virtually no reduction in battery life or increase in heat.

I've seen the 701 plays DVDs off external Drivers just fine, I've seen it personally. Compressed videos stutter with 512MB, but with a 1GB stick in there it is stutter free. I'm sure stopping a few running background processes would make playback stutter free on 512MB also.

It isn't that the 701 is too slow processor wise, it just doesn't have enough RAM in the stock configurations(unless you buy the 8G model that has 1GB pre-installed).

Except they are releasing products that are actually innovative and not horribly overpriced.

I could be wrong, but I believe we are definately NOT the target audience for this product.
