Transcend Information (Transcend), one of the world's leading memory module manufacturers, is proud to release its latest memory innovation: a 2GB DDR2-800 Fully-Buffered DIMM (FB-DIMM) designed specifically for Apple's high-end Mac Pro system. The Mac Pro is based on the powerful Quad-Core Intel Xeon 5400 platform, and has a total of eight FB-DIMM memory slots, of which only two are used in standard configuration (2 x 1GB FB-DIMMs). Transcend's 2GB FB-DIMM gives Mac Pro users the option to fully populate all eight slots for a total of capacity of 16GB.

With the Mac Pro's efficient memory architecture that supports four simultaneous memory channels, Transcend's 800MHz frequency FB-DIMM delivers amazing bandwidth, allowing transfer rates up to 25GB per second. The 2GB DDR2-800 FB-DIMM for Mac Pro is also equipped with a high-performance Advanced Memory Buffer (AMB) and Error Correction Code (ECC), which monitors the data that gets transferred in and out of memory and performs real-time correction of any errors found. This feature is essential for performing mission-critical or compute-intensive tasks on a Mac Pro workstation, as it can greatly reduce the risk of computational errors, while at the same time increase overall system stability.

Transcend's 2GB DDR2-800 FB-DIMM module for Apple Mac Pro uses robust eight-layer PCBs that meet JEDEC(the Joint Electron Device Engineering Council)standards. Their additional speed and bandwidth along with generous 2GB capacity meet the rigorous requirements of hi-end computing. The 240-pin FB-DIMM is made of 18 high-quality 70 nm 128Mx8 DDR2 DRAM chips. Each chip is selected with the strictest quality and performance standards and is manufactured using small Fine-Pitch Ball Grid Array (FBGA) packages to assure better thermal dissipation, electrical efficiency and reliable computing quality. Thanks to the included high-quality heat sinks equipped with cooling fins and highly conductive thermal compound, Transcend's 2GB DDR2-800 FB-DIMM for Apple Mac Pro also offers superior heat diffusion characteristics which greatly increases reliability and lowers system temperatures.

Transcend memory modules are built to the highest specifications with the finest chips and materials available, and they undergo strenuous laboratory testing to ensure they provide the best performance possible. All Transcend memory modules come with a lifetime warranty and the support of a global service network. Recognized worldwide for their reliable high quality, outstanding performance, excellent compatibility, and stable operation, Transcend memory modules are the obvious choice of discerning power users.

Product Features
  • Specially engineered for Apple Mac Pro 8-core systems
  • High performance Advanced Memory Buffer (AMB) allows simultaneous reads and writes
  • Built-in ECC(Error-Correction Code)ensures efficient data transfer
  • Premium multi-fin heat sinks with high-conductivity thermal compound for extra cooling efficiency
  • 100% tested for performance and reliability
  • Worldwide lifetime warranty

The mac pro already has 4GB DDR2-800 FB-DIMM modules for the Apple Mac Pro for a total of 32GB of ram. They've had 2GB modules for a long time as well.

Well, every 2GB in a Mac Pro (2x1 or 1x2) is $500, and the 4GB is $1200, so I think the idea here is to have a 2GB stick available outside of Apple that's not ridiculously priced.

Before this, I only ever saw Kingston FBDIMM DDR2-800, and that's on obscure websites.

Remember, Intel Skulltrail needs FBDIMM.
