9800 Gx2 Or Hd 3870 X2 Or ????

I Have to admit i ordered an xfx brand gx2 about an hour ago on the egg , just to play around with prolly will sell it after i have my fun ............. mostly i wanted to see for myself how much of a difference it has over the x2 , in relation to the things i do on my pc.

Not biting for anything at the moment. Will probably change my card in the fall - will be two years with it by then. Hopefully there will be some good games that DX10(.1) makes a noticable difference in playing (not holding out too much hope though), but for now my card serves me well.

well let us know how it performs, i really cant decide whether to go ahead and get the gddr3 or the gddr4 version of the X2
ahhhh! im so close to buying it though i just wanna wait to see if the gddr4 performance is going to be really all that much of an improvement

Well I'll go get mine tomorrow. My goofy source thought I was gonna drive the 20mi to naperville to get it, he called at about 6. I'll just burn it anyway so I'm in no hurry. But I do want to know will it take longer than 7 gd hrs to get through Crysis maxed @ 1920x1200. It usually takes me 2hrs at gaming speeds.

well if its just based on what I want not what i would buy then yeah the choice is easy, 9800GX2.

i think anyone would make the same choice, i mean surely enough the ATi card is better value, but pricing aside the GX2 does win.

I'll be getting the first of my two 3870x2's within a few months. I plan on having two by the end of the year at the very latest.

Possible I might go for the x2 from the 4000 series, if we catch official word within the next few months.

Well, I voted for the GX2 because it has a great potential. I expect it to have perform much better once there are going to be a decent drivers(current drivers sux) for it. Anyway I'd be rather waiting for the next, the 55nm generation.

well think of this, you could just buy 2 9600GT's and a sli board for about 500 bucks now so why waste money on either card, the ati would be a little cheaper than that still maybe but for 600 bucks the 9800 is not worth it

you could also buy a 3870 and a 3850 off ebay really cheap and when the 4800 series comes out, hope that they are good and run them in hybrid crossfire

well as res goes up so does its preformance numbers over the 3870, so id take the GX2. But you need a decent sized moniter to make use of it.

usually the best scaling youll get out of any 2 cards rendering together will be at max res, i.e 2560x1600.

but for example take 2x8500GT in SLi and your probably getting 90%+ scaling at 1280x1024.

with my 8600's i see 90%+ at 1280x1024 + 4xAA or at 1600x1200+

so with an 8800 putting out ample fps in single card mode at 1280x1024 its logical to assume that at that res the benefits of adding another card wont be huge at all.

imo SLi/crossfire benefits are most noticed at a res/setting that brings 1 card to its knees, then you will really notice the extra card. it it plays beaut already, then naturally there wont be much to gain.

Yes the GX2 is faster than the X2 but the price to performance just doesn't add up, especially when you throw in AA. I'm wondering if AMD/ATI are going to drop the prices on the X2's to battle the GX2 like they did with the HD3850-70's when the 9600GT's came out?

The drivers will not make it any better. The drivers for the g92 chipset has been out since december. sorry.

Dual GPU cards simply aren't mature enough yet to consider, especially at their price levels. I got my eye on the 9800GTX.

Has ATi worked out the issues with the 3870x2 and Crysis yet?

Those are all old benchmarks using pre-release hardware and pre-release drivers. The AA issues have been fixed for the most part, especially in Crysis. The 3870x2 doesn't touch the 9800GX2 in Crysis. The same goes for UT3. I don't know about Call of Juarez or HL2 because I haven't see anyone retest the card with those games yet in any reviews. However, for the most part the xtreview of the 9800GX2 was complete crap and should be ignored now that reviews are out using the latest drivers.

I agree, the 4xxx x2 will probably be a beast. Maybe ATI will make it 4999.50x4 GTX ULTRA XTX XXX GDDR5 PRO-X....X. . . .x...@ $9,899, quad slot. F*** power supply, this thing comes with its own transformer and trunk cable with a contract through your local electric company for a direct connection straight to your video card.
+8 FPS in CRYSIS GOGO!!!

Theres still work needed on X2 drivers especially for tri-fire Quad-fire i still think theres more preformance to gain yet through driver tweaking.

I really hate driving forever. Thank God for the I294. Anyway after a hour of yacking I finally managed to get away from him with the card. He surprised me with a full EVGA GX2.

This thing is hands down the largest setup ever. It almost doesn't fit in 2 pci slot. If you were to SLI it on a 780i you're screwed - it touches the top of the second pci-e 2.0 slot. But you really don't need two of these things anyway It does look like it will fit if you take the casing off but it looks like it will take forever to do so I'll put it off for later.

I just started to test it so I'll finally be able to compare it to the 3870x2 my self. I'm tired of seeing ppls do it w/o the most updated driver or game patches (Crysis 1.1!?)
