Are we really getting the IQ of DX10 when we are reminded of it's hype from these pics. With games like:

-Crysis, you can use most of the DX10 features in DX9 making this a DX9 game more or less
-Bioshock
-Call of Juarez
-Company of Heroes
-Flight Simulator X: Acceleration
-Gears of War
-Hellgate: London
-Lost Planet having nearly no difference in DX10
-World in Conflict

I have listed most popular games for the PC. I have to ask you if any of the DX10 titled games show any worthy improvements in visuals vs DX9. For example, (not all of you will recall this) does the improves over DX9c the same as DX9c over DX8.1?

I'd be interested in everyones opinion here for sure. I dont plan on going to a DX10 card just for the sake of spending money and saying I have DX10. My current card (1950xtx) does me fine even at 19x12 resolution, but would like to know from people if DX10 is worth all the hype. I wonder if I am really missing anything.

i saw a big improvement in textures but the frame rate is crappy

at medium the frame is playable for crysis then again for some reason when i try to use high on directx 9 its just the same crappy frame rates for crysis

I don't recall seeing a visual differance in Call of Juarez and World in Conflict in Dx10 mode and in gears of war it only turned AA on wtf.

I've actually very much enjoyed dx10. Much clearer textures, and fine detail that is simply not there on dx9. I know a lot of people think dx9 crysis looks the same, but I very much disagree. There is definately more detail and realism added in dx10 from what I've seen, I've only played bioshock, crysis, and wic so far in dx10. And as for frames, sure its a little slower. But I haven't ever had slow enough frames to warrant playing in dx9 mode (with the exception of the later lvls of crysis, specifically the last, I had to go down to dx9 quality). 30+ is just fine w/ me.:)

Also, keep in mind dx10 is still relatively new. They don't update dx all that often, usually a couple generations of vc go through the same dx. I suspect with upcoming games and vcs we will see a more substantial difference.

Well tbh the DX10 hack for crysis shows that these effects can be done in dx9. DX10 is only marketing hype for the "HD lifestyle" which i so badly despise

I despise anything marketing a "lifestyle" as well, but that isn't really the case w/ dx. Perhaps in crysis things can be done to make it operate very close to dx10 w/ just dx9. But like I said, dx10 has not been fully optimized or utilized yet. Was dx9 just a marketing hype? No, just a progression.;)

Hellgate, Crysis and Company of Heroes are the only DX10 games ive played and I did notice a difference. Its nothing like 8 to 9 but its still pretty nice. Altho I have no idea how they would run on my rig lol I was running them on my friends QX9650 + HD 2900XT Crossfire.

dx10 may not have lived up to the hype, but what does these days? dx10 is a clear improvement over dx9 in terms of IQ and textures. It does suck the FPS right out of my machine but that will change as it gets further developed.

Your right there but until it is optimised I don't see the point in throwing games out there that will eat your GPU, they should have progressed in steps e.g adding some new effects here and there with patches over time. Also they should have optimised it to begin with.

I am on the fence really. I prefer more framerate, but if I can run it full spec like Gears of War and Company of Heroes, then I like DX10.

Well, true, but in most cases w/ microsoft, things aren't fully optimized when they are released. I think this has a lot to do with the fact that they are developing software that powers a huge number of different hardwares and game engines. Same thing w/ their operating systems. They just don't work as well as they can in their first year or so.

right now, the amount of fps that DX 10 takes to slightly improve things that you could barely see even when comparing side to side, its just not worth it!

True with most software companies they don't ALWAYS get it right the first time or they rush it out without proper *coughEA* but games like Gears of War the only improvement in direct 10 is 4x anti aliasing which u can turn on in the driver menu.

dx10 is nice but the faces in crysis sure as hell did look that good!
i think it is an improvement and it is a drop in frame rates but i didn't see a HUGE difference...i guess it just depends on the game and the settings though.

Doesn't a game need to be made/coded from the ground up in dx10 to really see its benefits? All the games listed are dx9 games with a dx10 mode. I read an article about that somewhere, but can't seem to find it.

why don't they compare crysis dx9 vs crysis dx10?

They did that to show last gen DX9 facial features to that of next gen DX10. Why would i/you want to see a comparison of DX9 facial features in a next gen game compared to that of a next gen DX10? We wouldnt.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!111
Why would i/you want to see a comparison of DX9 facial features in a next gen game compared to that of a next gen DX10? Well, because Crysis is the game that many people are playing right now, and Halo isn't. Any more questions?

Seriously, people are trying to decide if they really need to make a transfer from XP to Vista and spend lots of money... Now, instead of spend all the money on DX10 "renovation" they could play Crysis on DX9 and get about the same visual experience....
