well got my order yesterday so im scrambling to get my rig back together and ive come to a point..............

suggestions for mounting maze5 GPU to my card :

with back plate or without?

the bridge chip gets in the way of the backplate and id have to mod the backplate to clear the bridge chip or mount the block without the plate?

if i mod the plate it will be permanent (a new plate/mount kit is like $6)

what do you think?

I've got my 2GB DDR500 set through, got my rig stable at 2.38GHz from 2.35GHz which I had with my DDR400. ^^

Managed to get 5006 in 3DMark06 with my X1950 @ stock speeds. I got 4900 at 2.32GHz so I'm rather pleased.



UPDATE:LOL!

I got 5020 just by pushing it up 2MHz - freaking awesome! I'll upload the image tonight as I've got to go to work now.

Yeah, I hope I can beat 2.52GHz which was my best with my friends Mushkin Redline set. I should have my motherboard today so if I'm awake enough after work I'll start on it. Looking forward to seeing if I can hit 3GHz... should be fun.

As for the 3850 - I'm looking at the HIS IceQ 3 - I'll get my GF to pay for most of it and then pay the rest as it's not fair getting her to pay for it all. She can if she wants, but a £160+ is a bit too much to spend on a bugger like me. Still, I push her buttons so she might.

Good man! Wire management for me is one of the most important processes. I'm going to spending a lot of time on mine making sure it's as neat as it can be. I don't have a removable motherboard tray so it might be a bit more difficult than I previously envisioned.

id still save yourself 50 pounds and get the sapphire - horizontal resistor for shure plus they manufacture cards for ATI. just my $0.02

ATM ive modded my PSU and installed a powerstrip similar to what Mk uses, its a pain to fit a PC with 2HDDs, 2 DVDs, 2 pumps, 2 rads, 2 w/b, lots of 1/2" tubing, 4 CCFLS, 2 inverters, 2 fan controllers and about 6-7 fas in a mid-tower.

I feeled that my xeon system was the bottleneck, i was right...

That being said, i bought a multimeter, my r1222 was at 2.2ohms not really the same number discussed on random murdurer post, he had 1.5ohms at start and finished it at .933ohms

With a 9b pencil the best i get is 1.8ohms, i'm missing something about reading the voltage
on the board when running... witch pin is the ground? which pin should i select of the 4 showed off to read my 3d high voltage ?..? (so for now did'nt check my volts :shadedshu)

..something weird is happening too. i cant overclock on the fly anymore in windows.. i selected an option when i install ati tray tools that i suspect desactivated something in
the ati drivers.. still, i overclock trought bios, 783gpu/999mem is the
way to go for stability... i guess that my r1222 mod did'nt worked so well..
can do some 3dmark 06 @ 799gpu/999mem but @ the 3rd firefly run ! blue screen !

i think in RandomMurderer's guide he says its best to use 4b/2b pencil, for ground i dont think it really matters but id go right to the slot plate or w/e (the part you screw to the case) i think it would be best for you to post in that thread to get help within regards to Volt mod as he's the man

I've managed to get my CPU to 2.7GHz whilst keeping my X1950 Pro at stock (whilst using the 8.3 Catalyst, no hot-fix). I'm pretty pleased with it tbh, I've managed to get 5146 in 3DMark06 without even attempting to push my GFX any higher. I tried 2.75GHz last night but I got a BSOD and 3DMark06 crashed even when I moved my CPU's vCore from stock.

I wonder what sort of score I'll be looking at with a stock clocked 3850 - I'm tempted to go for the Sapphire and buy a 3rd party cooler as it may work out cheaper than the HIS IceQ 3.

Either way, I'm only 7 marks away from being 89th in the ATi single card section of the 3DMark06 thread. I hope my card doesn't crap out when I begin to OC the bugger.
