Crysis on a 2GHz Sempron?

I have seen the system requirements, the minimum for the game are:

* OS – Windows XP or Windows Vista
* Processor – Single core 2.8 GHz or faster (XP) or 3.2 GHz or faster* (Vista)
* Memory – 1.0 GB RAM (XP) or 1.5 GB RAM (Vista)
* Video Card –256 MB**
* Sound Card – DirectX 9.0c compatible

Now my brother really wants this game for his birthday... but here are the specs of his pc:

* OS - Windows XP
* Processor - AMD Sempron 2GHz
* Memory - 1.0 GB RAM
* Video Card -- 8600GTS 256MB
* Sound Card -- onboard (I think it's Realtec).

So the processor is below minimum requirements...

Does anyone run Crysis on a 2Ghz single core? Is it playable? Brother assured me that he wouldn't be minding some stuttering, or having to play it on the lowest settings... but well I don't think he'd be enjoying a slide show...

Totally unplayable, im sorry. I have a 3.2Ghz Althon+ XP Single core, and that couldnt even run Company of Heroes on the lowest settings possible without enormous lag, so considering his an Sempron i very MUCH doubt it...

It wouldnt hurt for him to try the DEMO though would it? and see if it was

it wont even run on 2ghz my pentium 4 at 2ghz oc to 2750mhz could't run it probaly and the keyboard will freeze up

What kind of Sempron is it? That is what we need to know. If it is an older Athlon XP based Sempron(Socket A), then no it won't be playable.

However, if it is one of the Athlon 64 based Sempron 64s, then yes it will probably be playable on medium or low. A 2GHz Sempron 64 is a lot more powerful than an Athlon XP 3200 or a Pentium 4 2.0GHz.

A 2.0GHz Sempron 64 is performance rated at 3500 or 3600 depending on how much L2 cache it has.

I would talk him into ut3 or something similar that would play good on that machine. Crysis doesnt play good on my machine, its playable and good frames but lacking in excitement, Ive been threw all 4 levels in a matter of days and uninstalled it and probably wont install it again. ALLEN

no i doubt it...also the 8600GT will handle crysis but BP you should perm oc it for him to make up...and ad another gig of ram....if he clocked his 8600(use my guide get it done fast) and if you add another gig of ram...on med ettings at like 1024x768 he ram and the card might pick up some of the slack from the proc here is what you should do


oc and bios time modify his 8600GT do a volt mod with a pencil to make sure it oc's well...bios modif the fan speed to 100% all the time

add another gig of ram


run crysis on medium setting EXCEPT turn shadows on low and turn motion blur off for some reason i cant remember but if its still choppy if theirs a post processing option start turning that lower

now run crysis at 1024x768 as high as 1440x900 anything else will kill the 8600

that should play on his rig as good as its going to get with those settings

o and if he has vista force crysis to run in dx9 mode

The problem isnt his 8600GTS but his CPU is going to hold him back no matter how much he OC's the card Solairs

i know that i under stand the problem but if he is going to get the game no matter what im giving ideas of how to reduce as much lag as possible as the proc will as you said and i understand will hold him back

Panther, just a lil info, my wifes HTPC can play crysis @ 800x600 low ~25fps no stutter:

Celeron D 347 @ 4.4Ghz
1GB PC3200
7600GS @ 520/470
Win MCE 2005

If the Sempy is S754 I doubt it. If its Newer AM2 then yes it will. 8600GTS is no slouch. It can run the game 1024 x 768 with medium settings. Trying the demo will be a good start. I ran the demo on my test machine which has X800GTO OCd to X800XT speed at 1280 x 1024 @ low settings without AA smooth, no slutter. But I have a dual-core.

Your bro should try out the demo first.

I had forgotten about the demo!

I'll try out the demo tomorrow on his pc...

Have no idea what Sempron it is though... my dad bought it for him around 2 years ago, and it was cheap (not a good sign I guess)

He always games at 1024x768 (small 17" TFT) and it plays Oblivion well on medium/high settings (~40fps). But well Oblivion's not Crysis...

Heh I hesitate to oc his pc! Dad will keep nagging for a year or so if anything went wrong! (And considering the pc's not mine, by murphy's law something will go wrong... so no!)

I'll try the demo on everything low tomorrow and see how it goes.

Even my system chokes on crysis, but that's probably because the game prefers Nvidia more.

Maybe low at 800x600..... But its a pretty rough game on your processor depending on what part your in.

zero grav and the last part of the game will destroy that proc and 8600....and id now my work on the 8600 is extensive and i had a x2 at 3ghz...and m 8600 was so modded you could call it a 8700ultra solaris17 ed.

it played fine @ low settings on my lads pc @ 800/600 and only stuttered in parts @1000/700 and thats a 754 semp 3400 back running stock (2ghz) with a stock 76gt and 1.5gb of ram.

NP most deff let us know how it goes though if he manaes to get it to rn its good to know because if you tell us at what frams he gets and clock speeds etc...and youve laready provided system specs a lower end system like this is excellent foe use of an example if someone else asks about their own low end rig this systems performance will be a good comparison as far as fram rates load times etc.
