So what's the best 9550 can go?

Core: 500+ Mhz and mem: 250-400Mhz(depend manufacter&speed specifigation)

My old Sapphire 9550 if I remember right(+-few Mhz) core: 515Mhz and mem: 275Mhz air cooled with voltmods.

flashed my PowerColor 9550 256 to a ATI 9600XT 256
OC after bios flash: 570/230 (460)
3DMark 2001 - before: 5114 After: 10335
128% increase in core clock and a pathetic 15% increase in mem clock

Saphire Radeon 9550 256ddr memory

I have just bought this graphics card Saphire 9550 256 ddr memory, the information on the chips is MEZZA 0548E 72S56D40CTP-G5, i googled this but is not recognised, has anyone had this memory before, and what bios did they use to flash it.
I am very new at this and trying this for my grandson, is it version 4 or 5.
If anyone could help i would be very grateful

I own a Jetway 9550 256Mb. Comes only with a small fanless heatsink similiar to the ATI reference design:

First I got 440 Mhz core freqency stable.
Then I changed the heatsink to a larger one - an old Slot1 heatsink from an Pentium 2 233 Mhz.
Had to cut off a few fins to fit it. Still with no fan and some AS2 mounted with screws.

Now stable is core 445.

I wonder why there are 9550 / 9600 / 9600Pro cards using a fan with this "cold" gpu ?

3DMark2003 peaked at >3500 points with my old mobile celeron 1800@2400 (Northwood core, 256KB L2 Cache, FSB133).

I even found a voltage mod at this russian site !
Considering that the authors even with 1,56V on the gpu and replacing most capasitors only achieved 454 Mhz I don't see no reason to mod my card. The ram used on that card was 3,6ns...

My 5ns Hynix ram ist running 260 / (520) with no errors - quit impressive for 5ns.
Could the described VMem mod give me some more speed ?
I found no experiences with higher voltages on 5ns ram !

Next step for my could be flashing the bios to an XT version - I found 2 files that may be useable - each from an 9600 card with 256 MB Hynix ram.

Still surprised about this old 5ns RAM, my 4ns ADATA with my older ATI 9000 only did 220 without artifacts...

my hynix 5.0 can only reach 235mhz to run stable with no heatsink...

Here my "own" cooling:

Changed the little black heatsink and mounted with screws the body of a Pentium 2 Slot cooler.
Had to cut some fins to fit it - looks a little but unprofessional but it works fine.
Stays real cool even with no fan and mininium or no case ventilation.

When I got the time I will try the before mentioned voltage mod for this card - after I found a proper translation Russian --> English

Celeron yes - but a it's a mobile processor with 256KB L2 Cache and northwood core, only 30 Watt TDP even at this overclocked speed. FSB is 133 Mhz and ram @166 Mhz dual channel mode.

haha... havnt tried running 03 with my OC... But i'm sure gotta be far from you... cuz i'm using AFP 4x and my memory can't get even near 260 lol

My default clock speeds are:
Engine: 250MHz
Memory: 200MHz

How much do you think i can overclock this card without putting on a new cooling unit?
With ATITOOL, I got it up to 453/248 (are these speeds safe?).

Any help would be great, thanks!

wow... my powercolor got me to 450/240 only lol... well it is 455/245 when it got artifacts... i think u bring it down to.. 450/243??

the only thing is that I don't have a temp. sensor so i don't know how hot my GPU is right now...hopefully i don't burn this baby up! does you card have a temp sensor? and how long did you run the scan for artifacts for?

9550s don't have temp sensors. You would be VERY unlucky to fry your card if you use ATITool to find the max settings.

I just flashed different BIOS to enhance the card's speed.

With a ABIT 9600XT BIOS I now got core @460 (before: 445) stable.
Mem still @260 Mhz.

With a GEcubeXT Bios I first forget to reduce the 500 Mhz coreclock, after flashing windows booted with no problems, but games were unstable !

Still trying...
