you think a q6600 needs overclocking? i thought they sounded quite peachy on stock

im getting, in total, 6 or so Ghz of processing power, OVERCLOCKED, your getting 10.4 on stock.

Sounds good enough to me

ooer! just realised you live in notts! That makes 2 of us :toast:

Umm...dont add up the cores. Your not getting that much processing power. Lets use the example solaris used for me when dual core first came out. If you put to runners next to each other at the same speed, they don't end up going faster.

you have to give a lot more information about your overclocking, your volts, ram dividers, your HTT link, FSB, multiplier. Then we can make assumptions.

I have Tracers as well. Mine will post at 1400MHz:p, and get into windows at 1300MHz....Ballistx are kickass. I run mine 24/7 at 972MHz CL4-4-4-10, at 2.25V....and sometimes 1166MHz CL5-5-5-12 2.25V.

Not sure how much that memory is holding him back, while waiting on a 2Gig 1066mhz kit to finish someones build with a Q6600, I tested it out with 2x 512mb Lynx DDR2-533 (right crappy and cheap) on an Asus P5N32-E SLI, I linked and synched this memory to 667mhz to get 3.0Ghz stable. Mind you the new memory won't hurt at all and will help facilitate higher OC's, you should be able to run 667mhz memory with 333fsb (3.0Ghz) L&S or use your divider.

With the 9x multi, ddr2 800 isn`t that necessary. Ddr2 667 will get you to (checks) 333 fsb , right ? That`s 2997 mhz. If the ram overclocks then that`s 3 Ghz ! You say you can`t get an extra 10 mhz. Sounds more like a problem . I had a Gigabyte GA-965P-(D)S3 and it overclocked straight to 350 fsb all settings auto. Could you list some of the settings you`re using in bios ?

sorry about pic i used my phone  - as i said b4 no matter what changes i make the pc always shuts down and restarts, shows the graphics card info, shows the new cpu speed for about 5 seconds then shuts off, restarts a loads the previous settings and starts up no probs at all

if i change cpu host frequency to enabled it gives me 3ghz cpu and 667 ddr and i also change pci express frequency to 100mhz but still no joy

Change system memory multiplier off auto (unless you`ve already done that)

:D - new memory arrived this morning - instantly overclocked to 3ghz with no messing about so i'm well chuffed - big thanks for all the advice :respect:

One question though - does anyone know how to change the memory timings on this motherboard as they are not so good 5-6-6-20 , fsb/dram 3:4

Change the:
Robust Graphics Booster to Disabled
PCI Express Frequency to 100MHz
System Memory Multiplier to (whatever equals anything between DDR800 and DDR900)

What is in:
High Speed DRAM DLL Settings?

Is that section for volts, settings, or both? You could probably bump your volts to the 2.2v and timings to 4-4-4-12 as those are your stock settings on both the 1GB modules and 2GB modules. These should be able to fly pretty close to DDR2-900 on those stock settings. If you loosen the timings to 5-5-5-15 they will go well over DDR2-1066, that is an assumption, but on most high quality ram such as this it is true!

Mind snapping a picture when you have "High Speed DRAM DLL Settings" on Custom or something?

the only choices i have for the robust graphics booster are auto/fast/turbo

high speed dram dll settings has option 1 or 2 so god knows what that does

as far as i can tell if i put the voltages on manual it lets me +-1v but doesnt tell me the voltage its running at :(

Don't worry about the graphics booster, its no biggie ... I didn't want it to play with the volts and pci-express clocks too much ... Not with the overclock going on, perhaps others have more to say on this subject, but I always understood that as 'unstable'. After reading that you have been playing Crysis for a few hours, I would think that you are definitely good to go :D!

Interesting that you have Option 1 and Option 2, but nothing defining what each of them are, nor if you are able to configure them. I just went through a Giga-Byte BIOS and the settings were only available in the M.I.T. area. I'll do a quick google search to see where they can be changed, let's hope that you don't have to use a program like MemSet each time windows boots ... sometimes windows doesn't like timings changing on the fly, while everything else is going on, :p!

As for your DRAM Volts, it would probably go by the SPD setting on your sticks, or just run the standard JEDEC rating of 1.8V (or whatever it is, I forget). Overvolt generally means 0.1v, so 1.8v to 1.9v, or maybe 2.0v to 2.1v.

I can only think of using the App that came with your motherboard for monitoring, maybe Everest as well. Not sure about much else.
