Well, i seem to be hitting a random blue screen upon windows boot every now and again. Basically the scroll bar thing goes left to right a few times, then i get the BSOD, but then my computer restarts and all is fine

I have read it might be RAM related, but others are saying its drivers that cause it, and others say its possible motherboard drivers? Anyone else know a solution?

Cheers!

any firewall is better than microsux :D

bit of a generic bsod that 1 tbh, you overclocking anything new without a good stresstest?

you could memtest your ram to see if its that, prime your cpu/mem to see its there and change your chipset/gpu drivers to see if its those.

tbh more voltage will most likly stop it, just a question of what you add the juice to needs good enough cooling to cope, if you add it to the right thing.

i hate that bsod.

all my overclocks are 100% stable ORTHOS + OCCT so its thoroughly checked :ohwell:

ill slightly decrease my overclock, probably to 3Ghz on 1.35V, that should help. If not its memtest time, i was praying it wasnt my RAM :(

Ill keep everyone updated, going to flash my bios to the latest version in 10 minutes or so.

I have experienced similar problems in the past, mainly for 2 reasons, the first being RAM....voltage or under (default) voltage in particular an secondly and SmBus driver issue, you should be able to download and/or reinstall it, it normally comes as part of your motherboard/chipset drivers, it's main function is to identify and communicate with the motherboards key components and their basic functions....it does plays a kind of "sensor" role, I dont profess to be an expert on the subject though!

As for firewall, try downloading "Zone ALarm" from Zone Labs, the free version IMO is great, I have been using it for 3 years and have never had a single issue.

Right, i have downloaded the newest:

graphics drivers

bios update

wireless device driver update

If i still get the BSOD i'll run memtest. :(

its almost always ram related.

Look at it this way: if the ram is bad, various drivers will crash due to the bad ram corrupting info they need.

If its occasional with fair amounts of time between them it means there is hope, and its most likely fixable by adjusting some BIOS settings (voltages, timings, or just overheating)

Just as a comment: zone alarm in its current form is horrible. It used to be great, but actually got bought out by a spyware related company at one point (sorry, no link for reference. they were all deleted off the zonelabs forums) and as such, various groups paid them off to not get detected and/or blocked in zonealarm products.

Also its rather bloaty.. wastes a lot of RAM at times.

That said, i currently dont use a firewall - i've got my router setup, and in times of extreme need (aka, virus infected PC on the network) i turn on the one built into my kaspersky suite... but its very restrictive (blocks P2P apps) so its normally off.

Alright, everythings updated and i just restarted, minus the blue screen :) so fingers crossed i have solved it via driver issues. If it happens to re-appear ill go buy some discs so i can run memtest.

@ mussels - i just did a few tweaks in bios - swapped RAM voltage from whatever it was at to auto, in hopes itll set itself correctly, and slightly down clocked my CPU.

Like you said, it is few and far between - perhaps once or twice a week, so lets hope it gets solved.
