Two 45nm Phenom X4 and an Ultra-Mobile CPU Slated for Q4

NordicHardware reports that in Q4 2008, Advanced Micro Devices is slating two models of 45nm Phenom X4 quad-core chips along with a cheap ultra-mobile CPU aimed to compete with the Intel Atom and VIA Nano processors for release. The two new Phenom parts would be based on the new Denreb core to be succeeded by Propus based CPU's in Q1 2009.

Apart from retail models, AMD plans to release a CPU targeted for the ultra-mobile consumer electronics market. The CPU would be derived from the tested K8 architecture that is supposed to give it a design advantage over competing products from Intel and VIA. A major design advantage is of the memory controller being integrated on die that effectively eliminates the northbridge, saving on power consumption. The CPU has a rated TDP of 8W.

It gets rid of the Northbridge?
Ok, that IS a big power saving: combining the Atom's TDP of 2 watts and its northbridge TDP of 4 - 6 watts (cant remember which), you get pretty close to the same power, but with much better architecture (RISC for the Atom, AM64 for the AMD chip). I can't wait to see a mobile device using one of these!

Any premature specs for the quad core?

I had a die-shot which got lost after a system reinstall. I had once used it as a wallpaper and posted on a thread. Here's the desktop, excuse the task-bar.

This thing looks to have massive amounts of L3 cache. If not done well, an L3 can adversely step-up latencies.

I hope it performs a bit better than current phenoms. I believe the Denreb core is what is used in the new phenoms that came out, the 9550, 9650, 9850, etc.

And that is a huge step up in cache, be it l2 or l3. I guess AMD is trying a page out of Intels playbook?

No, The new Phenom's don't use Denreb. They're not 45nm.

This is Nehalem:

Compare it to Denreb in the 1st post. They look suspiciously similar.

I hope its going to be a AM2+ socket. That would be wicked.

hmmm half the level 2 as the amd, interesting level 3 is much higher, but the further you go out, the less it matters. we'll see how this next one goes, as always though, amd needs to ramp up the clock speeds.
