Mushkin Enhanced, a leading manufacturer of high performance PC - components, announces the immediate availability of the three best-selling 2x 2GB DDR2 memory kits of 2008 announced its PCB used a special feature. Instead of the familiar green PCBs, Mushkin has invented something special. Based on the slogan "Black is beautiful" is the new X-line 8 series using "Challenger 8" series PCBs. Casemodders and all others who lay emphasis on special details, will be pleased with the black 8 SKILLED "Challenger" PCB. The black PCB now fits perfectly with the other PC components in the interior life and evaluates the overall picture.

The X-Line modules are now available in the following specifications:
  • 4096 MB, XP2-6400, 4-4-4-12 Dual Pack (2x 2048 MB), with EPP, Retail, X-Line (996580X)
  • 4096 MB, XP2-6400, 4-4-4-12 Dual Pack (2x 2048 MB), with EPP, Retail, X-Line (996580wX)
  • 4096 MB, XP2-8000, 5-5-5-15 Dual Pack (2x 2048 MB), REDLINE, with EPP, Retail, X-Line (996593X)
Images provided in the order 996580X, 996580wX and 996593X:

"Black PCBs are a step in the right direction, because our customers value on design and beauty. In addition to graphics cards and motherboards, which already exist with black PCBs, we look forward from now the color right product in the form of memory to offer." says Markus Zech, Technical Director for Mushkin Europe.

As usual, Mushkin sets enormous amount of emphasis on quality, in making the Mushkin X-line only the best, handpicked and high performing memory chips. "Overclocking potential" is thus guaranteed.

What? A black coloring? no other "special" feature? or am I missing something with the whole "Challenger 8" series PCB?

Either way, I agree with fit whole heartedly. The White looks amazing!

White discolours quickly, even more so in a heated environment, not to mention I think they look ugly. IMO modules would of looked better with no heatspreaders at all. Whats the point in a black PCB if you cant even see it?

yeah.... but how do ya keep em cool? ddr3 doesn't really get hot at all... but i think that's because the heat spreader gets rid of any heat that may occur. IDK.

Kets just annoyed because his Black Dragons don't clock well at all :p

To be honest though, I kinda agree, heatspreaders tend to do more to hold the heat in than get rid of it. Although, from articles I've read the mushkins do an alright job.

I'm not pissed. Without spd data tweaks I think 1020MHz out an 800MHz kit is perfectly acceptable. I dont doubt the possibility of 4-4-4 timings either with proper spd data adjustments @ 1000MHz. I do think Mushkin are losing it though with thise line of memory. It smells of Redline all day long. Similar name, identical heatspreaders. Only things that are different is the black PCB of the modules (which Mushkin may as well of not bothered with as their using heatspreaders..) and the rather stupid looking logo they put on the heatspreaders now. (I've never liked that logo.. kinda looks like a 5 year old just drew part of a back arrow and a big green capital "M")

No, they do not. I promise you that. Though some of the higher binned Elpida chips are clocking as well as D9's ever did, and from what I'm being told they general have a lower failure rate with high voltage.
