Key here is Newtekie1, as much as I like you, you are pro Intel and nvidia. You do bi*** and moan about alot of things. Granted alot of stuff you do moan and gripe about has substance. I saw at least 8 tests they pointed out where the phenom was better, which you asked for. Now that its shown, you gripe and moan about that. bad form man, its just bad form.

right now intel is better, we dont dispute that.

I'm not pro anyone, I buy and build using what is the best price to performance at the moment. The problem is that most on this site are pro AMD/ATi, so any time I am negative about them, it is notices, any time I am negative about nVidia/Intel it goes unnoticed. If you look at some of my posts, you will see be bitching and moaning plenty about Intel/nVidia, it just goes unnoticed by you and others because your are the ones that are actually biased.

And get your facts straight, stop trying to make your side look better. They pointed out 6 tests and repeated 3 of them, but in 2 of those 6 the Intel was still outperforming the Phenom, which makes me wonder why they posted them, look at the 6 they pointed out and you will see this yourself. That leaves 4 where the Phenom managed to match or better the Intel at the same clock speed, and one was a synthetic memory test that AMD has been winning for ages due to their integrated memory controller, it has no real world impact. Matching or besting in 4 out of 35 tests is far from supporting the claim that the Phenom processors are equal to the Core 2 processors clock for clock. That statement just isn't accurate at all, no matter how much you want to say it is and try to argue.

Unfortunately guys, newtekie is right. Phenom is in no way a match for an Intel Quad clock for clock. As far as the Mainconcept Encoding bench, that's not what the outcome is like when you use a difference H.264 encoder. The Intels walk all over AMD using Mediacoder, for example. And the more effects and or filters you apply, the larger the gap becomes.

To make matters worse, try comparing a Phenom to an Intel 45nm Quad at the same clock speeds and see what happens.

The Phenoms represent a decent price/performance ratio, but they are still no match for the Intels in terms of OCing and performance.

Thank you Wile E, of course any time I mention these facts I am instantly labelled an Intel fanboy. Some people just don't like when the negatives about their favorite brand are pointed out I guess so they just rather call people names instead of trying to post meaningful informatave fact filled posts to counter.

From Xbitlabs:

Sources familiar with the plans of Advanced Micro Devices on Wednesday denied the fact that the company has plans to release dual-core AMD Phenom processors, but said that the chipmaker plans to release dual-core chips based on the K10 micro-architecture under the AMD Athlon X2 brand-name.

Instead of three AMD Phenom X2 chips (as reported on Tuesday), the world’s second largest maker of x86 microprocessors plans to release one AMD Athlon X2 6500 microprocessor based on the K10 micro-architecture in early September. The chip will operate at 2.30GHz, feature 1MB of L2 cache [512KB per core], 2MB L3 cache as well as dual-channel DDR2 memory controller. The new product will have thermal design power of 95W, hence, should be compatible with the vast majority of AM2+ mainboards.

If you point out something about intel I usually leave a thank you on it. Ive not problem admitting my legiances, seems some others due. You still got what you was asking for. And as per the last line in my post, no one is disputing that intel is the better of the quad races.

i bet we get some new AMD WR's with these chips phenom X4s can already do 4ghz (with some damn good luck lol) so these should clock like crazy :toast:

No I didn't get what I was asking for. I never asked for the few tests showing the Phenom beating the Q6600. I asked for proof that the Phenom architecture is equal clock for clock to the Core 2 architecture. Posting 4 out of 35 tests where the Phenom is better is not proof of that statement. If it was closer to half and half, I would consider that statement valid, but it isn't.

And yes, if you read the original post I quoted, someone is pretty clearly disputing that Intel is the better of the Quads.

It[Phenom] performs on par with equal-clocked conroe parts

I guess you just missed that part?

And as for the thank you, I could really care less. If you want to get thanks post a bunch of anti-Intel, pro-AMD BS, that is based entirely on nothing and you will get huge thanks from all the idiotic AMD fanboys around here(as evident by mdm-adph's post).

ok my 2 cents

i agree for the most part on what newtekie said, although its now turning into the usual flame war and fanboy accusations

my e4300 @ 3Ghz was faster in general use than my X3 8450, i mean amd cant do superpi for shit 30+ seconds what the hells that about lol anyway....
its a very small difference imo and varys dependant on what im doing, for instance, encoding a 700mb avi file to dvd takes around the same time with my x3 as it did with my core 2, but saying that the x3 cpu usage only goes to around 80% which makes me think nero isnt fully utilising all 3 cores correctly.
now onto gaming, imo i still feel amd cpu's fair better at gaming and just feel smoother almost like there made to do just that, my fps are always constantly high and gameplay is always smooth, although its hard to prove as my e4300 was coupled with a 8800gts.

when i first built this system i was pissed off with it for the first 2 weeks and wanted to go back to intel, however now i have ironed out all the kinks and got it running how i like and overclocked at last albeit a small oc, i wouldnt want to go back to intel, besides with a name like Phenom who cares whats faster, Phenom pwns all muah hahahahaha

haha i'm noticing the same thing but mine was a X4 vs a e7200ES lol but i blame my ECS mobo :p
