AMD's new pinless server socket will debut this July(Yes, AMD is going LGA). The 1207 pin future home of the Opteron series will support DDR-II speeds from 400 to 800. The K8L Opterons will also sport an improved memory controller capable of using FBDIMM's.

has anyone heard if they're going to only release this socket type for the opty's? b/c if they did, i think that it would make it harder for people to change their motherboards. so, in my opinion, i think that they had better change all of the processor lines to be on the new chipset, or they should stay current with the 939 pin, or on a third leg, make these a 65nm process like intel's new chips.

if i had to guess, not very based on the claims of the next gen of athlon 64 x2s having a 14 watt TDP... and, based on how numerous opties currently have TDPs in the range of 25-35 watts, I'd say they're going to go down if anything.

man!! lets just see how intel's woodcrest and conroe can take this socket down, cause i far as i know even conroe wont stand a chance, this socket will have hyper transport 3, L3 catch and improved memeory controler oh plus SSE4!! (try this one intel AMD dares you!!!
