buster man not to be rude don't u listen, your wasting your time wanting to upgrading your cpu, your better off buying a psu first lol, like they say am2 is a waste of money unless u go with a phenom, compared to what intel has, save your money and upgrade your whole system. btw look at my system specs my cpu sux, got it 3.3ghz but runs super hot, not worth it, upgrading to intel soon like a e8400, q9450, now thats speed, i cant wait to see my 2 8800gt's fly lol

Your best option would be to hold off on building a new rig till the beginning of nest year. Leat Nelham come out so the prices of current CPU's drop. Save your money and when tax returns come around. You will now be able to get what you want. Just an idea...

My 4850e runs stabile & cool @2.9 GHz - that´s what I got for 56 Euros.
It also works fine @3.0 GHz - but there´s no need for me to OC to the edge.

Primarily I bought this CPU because of its low power consumption.
Without my HD3850 the whole system sucks 46 Watts in idle/www mode.

In all honesty, buy the opteron.

If you look at my system... I have the 1212.. and i bought it right when it came out. I don't have it overclocked to full yet ( i've had a motherboard die on me so I have to re-overclock) but it overclocks very very well because opterons are server processors. That means the silicon has to be better so they can stand the constant usage.

When I had mine overclocked as far as I could get it without water cooling, I got it up to 2.83 GHz. That's an 830 MHz overclock, with only bumping up the voltage twice (on my msi mother board, bumping twice meant a 6.6% increase in the stock voltage)

It did not get very hot. I have mine currently at 2.6 (I have to change my system specs). When I started overclocking it people got it to 3.2GHz on water blocks. It is a good overclocker.

Just my opinion. :)

my'n has 120mm fan and i've disassembled it it looks totaly different inside ,ill try to find it on the net /review or something

ill try to find a review also
Ahhh, that one is much better than the old one. I personally would upgrade it, but it will still run your system no probs. Might struggle if you try for serious overclocks, but since you are air cooling, I doubt that's the case anyway.

4600+ is a solid cpu. Only grab it if it's a cz tho. Cz should hit 3GHz without a problem, cu will struggle to hit 2.9GHz.

the 4050e overclocks about like the 5000BE chip does so that is what i would go with and it will take less power

The 4600 he is looking at is a 65W F3 Windsor. It will have no probs hitting 3 GHz, and is faster clock for clock than a Brisbane because it has tighter cache latencies. It will take roughly the same amount of power as a 65w Brisbane to achieve similar speeds, depending on the individual chip's limits.

oh i didn't read that. The 4600 he is looking at is a beast. I put my 5kBE against one of them and i had a hard time beating it... bad part is i had to win or i would have lost my BE  ( i bet it thinking it was a F2)

Personally i think that PSU would be fine, i have an intel e6550, and an ATi HD3870, which requires 450 watt minimum power supply, i had a thermaltake 400watt wannabe, and then replaced it with a 550watt Antec and saw NO perfromance increase or decrease.....and seeing as yours is an actual thermaltake, i think it would be fine.....even though a new one wouldn't hurt.

But if your strapped for cash, (which i have been bfore), then use that thermaltake you have already....

As for the CPU, i would go with the one with the newest tech and architecture, as they tend to run more efficiently then their predecessors.

oo but i do check this tread :p , this brisby is awesome if someone is loking for a good oc'ing cpu on a low buget look for the ADO5000DOBOX SERIES BRISBANE (5000+ 65W 65nm)
i've reached 3,4ghz with 1,45v but i have to buy some cooling for my mosfet chips on my mobo , they are getting hot (50-70celsius),after that i gues i'll settle for around 3,3-3,4ghz clock
