Are VPNs a must have now days

I'll second that question: Why the Frick would you need a VPN if you can't even offer a usecase? MOAR SECURITIES!!! is not a correct answer ...

RX Vega 56 and Vega 64 undervolting + maxed out power limit test by Hardwareluxx

So basically AMD is ruining their own performance by setting the cards up with too much voltage, making them worse, louder and lowering the perf/watt. The undervolted Vega 56 seems like a price/perf winner for this generation. The hell is going on, AMD?

How long till Apple makes its own mac hardware?

Highly unlikely since Jim Keller has been working for Tesla since he left AMD. Apple has "designed CPU's" in much the same way as I "designed cars" when I went to chose the upholstering for my car at the dealership. When you buy into ARM, it's not like getting a x86 license. AMD and intel...

Liquid-cooled AMD Radeon Pro Vega Frontier Edition Power Draw Tested

It could still happen. Vega would just have to supply a mere 58 TFlops, and they'd achieve that goal >.>

AMD CEO Talks Ryzen Threadripper and Ryzen 3 Series in Latest Company Video

By that logic, Intel CPU's should cost no more than the 50 euros I spent on my cousins G4560 times 2 or 4, depending on the number of cores they have. Pushing more silicon into one package has never, and will never, be cheaper.

Petya/NotPetya: The Ransomware That Wasn't Actually Looking to Ransom Anything

If you realize this, you weren't the intended audience. These charades by Putin aren't meant to make you think he is innocent. They are meant to make the yokel Russians who keep him in power think they are once again being attacked by the evil, invading West. If you watch state-sanctioned news...

Graphically intense game appropriate for 11yr old

Dear young people, I was recently asked to build a small powerhouse for a cousin of mine. Budget was ample, so he has some serious oomph to run games with from now on. He's progressing from an AMD A8-7600 APU with 8GB's of RAM and a hybrid disk to an intel 7600, GTX1070, 16GB's and an nvme SSD...

Best way to protect against WannaCry

It's SMB1 specifically, which is disabled by default in W10. Also, who the hell has SMB ports open to the internet? The virus most definitely DOES get in via fishy mails, but can spread via SMB1 afterwards. Source: Just spent a week hardening 152 BU's to this crap, because not everyone was...

Gaming related motion sickness - Need some help

Haven't read all posts, so don't know if this has been mentioned, but: Field of View, look into it, see if you can find a slider or a config file or if necessary a hack to increase it in the games that give you nausea. My wife can't play any game that has a FoV below 90 degrees, and increasing...

AMD Ryzen 5 1600X Overclocked to 5.90 GHz

Haven't you heard? Nerfing your product to make your competitor look better is the new craze, all the cool capitalistic corporations are doing it! Who needs market domination when you can look incompetent and be the underdog.

    AMD Ryzen 5 1500X 3.5 GHz

So the only reason for buying a high speed intel quad core seems to be when you combine a $600+ gpu with a $100 monitor? Who even buys a setup like that >.< PS: Dibs to TPU for not benching CPU's at 1024x768 in the original CounterStrike and then complaining about AMD's measly 8000fps vs...

uBlock Origin... How the heck do you use it?

I've never felt the need to dig into uBlock Origin since it does what I want, but I can answer the whitelist question really quick: Mouse-over the giant power button. Clicking it enables/disables for the entire site. CTRL+Clicking for that specific page.

What would you like to see in CPU reviews?

High res is interesting, but not for max/avg framerates. I want to see which CPU gives the most stable framerate, and ideally some sort of "stress" indication at 30, 60 and 120fps. Stress in this case is the amount of times the benchmark fps was not reached, times the duration of said drops.

Video Card for A Server running VMs .... (new to me)

Wowowowowowowowwwwwwwwwooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow, stop, full stop, hold it right there buckaroo! W2012 and 2016 Hyper-V edition are TOTALLY free to use. Unless if you have some need for one of the non-basic roles, you can get by with these versions for most SOHO usage...

Video Card for A Server running VMs .... (new to me)

If you know how to use Virtualbox to set up several VM's, the change to Hyper-V or ESXi isn't that hard. I'd consider Hyper-V the easier of the two to start with, but even an ESXi server isn't that complicated to set up, just pickier concerning hardware. If you're used to the Windows mindset I'd...

AMD Ryzen 7-1800X Cracks 5.20 GHz OC with LN2 and All Eight Cores Enabled

Yes, people disagreeing with you obviously have to be bought out in some way. Heaven forbid it should turn out someone has a better grasp of things than you do. It may very well be your opinion, but that not exclude you for getting called out on bullshit. Neither does trying to suddenly pass it...

AMD Ryzen 7-1800X Cracks 5.20 GHz OC with LN2 and All Eight Cores Enabled

Complain to the producer of said printer. Also, I doubt that the printer driver stopped working because it is missing an extension only available on Kaby Lake and Ryzen to begin with. Let the ad hominems begin. I do not own MS stock, nor do I work for MS, have never worked for MS, nor will I...

AMD Ryzen 7-1800X Cracks 5.20 GHz OC with LN2 and All Eight Cores Enabled

Please do tell what exactly in W7 stopped working because you moved to the new platform? Shall I tell you? ABSO-freaking-LUTELY NOTHING! You want MS to backport brand new extensions from 2016 into their software they released in 2009 and gave it's last major overhaul in 2011, even though not...

AMD Ryzen 7-1800X Cracks 5.20 GHz OC with LN2 and All Eight Cores Enabled

You obviously have little grasp on what an instruction set, a software life-cycle, or a class action lawsuit are. Are you equally frustrated by the fact that your new car no longer has an 8-track player as well? 1) New instruction sets are called progress. 2) No-one bothers implementing them...

Intel Core i7-7740K and i5-7640K Codenamed "Kaby Lake-X," 112W TDP, No IGP

I have no horse in the CPU race, but I have to admit I was expecting more from Intel than this panic reaction. Here I was, thinking they weren't really stagnating, just holding back for the moment AMD offered some semblance of competition. Seems I was wrong. I don't know what kind of...
