The Galaxy Fold: First Folding Smartphone

Seems like an odd design decision to make a necessary and non-removeable component easily removable. I wonder why this is? Last minute production change?

Next-gen Playstation - Zen 2 based, custom Navi and SSD

I have a 525GB SSD in my PS4 Pro, and I totally notice the load time improvement in Destiny 2. On a strike, I’ll often be 20 seconds into the map before the other two players join. By my perception, load times match that of the mid-level gaming PC I had with a SATA SSD. It’s often faster on a...

AMD Readies 50th Anniversary Special Edition Ryzen 7 2700X

That product still comes up on their site, and it’s cheaper than the normal boxed 2700X. They just don’t have competitive CPU prices at “shopBLT.” However, I bet they appreciate the extra page hits they are going to get now. I never knew this was a place to buy.

List your most fun or favorite overclock

I had a Dothan 800MHz that I unlocked with a #2 pencil and got it to that sacred 1.0GHz mark. Felt like I was splitting atoms at the time. Also, the Phenom x2 550 BE that I didn’t really overclock, but getting those 2 extra cores unlocked, turning it into an x4 with the right motherboard was...

Temps from FX to Ryzen, What is GOING ON?

A few other things to consider, the transistor density of Ryzen is considerably higher than the FX chip. More transistor density means more thermal density—the CPU will heat up quicker and then start throttling once it reaches the thermal limits. In this case, the later generations of boost...

Are SSDs effective when using SATA II ?

One of the biggest benefits of SSDs is the near-instantaneous seek time. A spinning disk drive has heads that must move around to access different parts of the drive. An SSD can access the entire drive more quickly and equally. So yes, the faster r/w speeds are one benefit, but even on SATA II...

Steam Hardware Survey Shows AMD's Continued Struggle to Gain Market Share

Nah. I merely am trying to add to the discussion, which is broader in nature than Steam alone. I believe that is the point of the these forums, as opposed to having someone assume my emotional state or crazy allegiances. It’s not as though I bought a PS4 because it had AMD inside—I would have...

Steam Hardware Survey Shows AMD's Continued Struggle to Gain Market Share

You got me. I’m such an AMD fanboy that the three PCs in my home are Intel inside. Maybe its because I have a PS4 Pro that I bring up consoles. I’m just one of 90M or so users that might buy and play games on something with an AMD chip in it. Coincidentally, I have no stability issues with my...

Steam Hardware Survey Shows AMD's Continued Struggle to Gain Market Share

I know it's not Steam, but AMD has over 130M APUs sold in the XboxOne and PS4, they are at least partially in Stadia, and I bet they'll be in Xbox[next] and PS5. AMD might be losing on one gaming front, but they are all but uncontested in the other significant gaming segments. I think they found...

Microsoft Reconsiders: No More Forced Updates in Windows 10

Parts of Windows 10 I don’t mind—the idea of auto-updates is really not bad, provided the system can recover from failed updates and you’re getting updates that fix issues and improve security. What I don’t care for is MS trying to do 2 major updates in a year (and their UI design choices that I...

Microsoft Reconsiders: No More Forced Updates in Windows 10

I don’t care much for the Windows 10 UI. In an effort to make touch easier, everything is oversized and very flat feeling. Windows 10 drove me back to MacOS, which stays relatively similar in appearance and functionality over major updates. Being designed for mouse and keyboard, the UI elements...

Gigabyte to Bundle Overclocked, Cherry-picked Intel Core i9-9900K With $900 Z390 Aorus Xtreme Waterforce

Gigabyte to Bundle Overclocked, Cherry-picked Intel Core i9-9900K With $900 Z390 Aorus Xtreme Waterforce

Seems like a poor investment with Zen 2 coming. Eventually Intel will get its act together and launch a proper CPU of this class. Even then, why not go HDET with this amount of money instead?

GameStop Records Worst Losses in Its History, Hinting at a Digital Future

Well, GameStop also made trade-ins of games nearly worthless. With PS+ discount sales on the PlayStation store, I just have a wishlist and check it for sales and buy when the price suits me. I used to frown on digital-only, but when the trade value doesn’t even cover your gas money to get to...

    Anthem The Game

I just wonder where this is all going. I get the feeling these overlord companies are needed to bankroll these major projects. We aren’t dealing with 8-bit Mario anymore. Most of these games are complex mechanically and the scenery and artwork take a long time to develop. I don’t think studios...

Intel Unleashes 56-core Xeon "Cascade Lake" Processor to Preempt 64-core EPYC

Being an Intel TDP value, won’t 400W be the starting point for all core at base 2.6GHz clocks? Boosting to 3.8GHz with even some cores will set the TDP to ludicrous.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider - mini-review

I ran through this one a couple months ago. I’m a TR completionist, but for some reason, this game felt lacking and I didn’t 100% everything. The game took me a lot of time, but it seemed like a lot less combat, and when there was, stealth was almost necessary or you’re quickly gunned down. That...

    Post your Cinebench R20 Score

My iMac and my BRIX. For some reason it thinks the i5-7500 is a 2C/4T. It's 4C/4T. I've been fairly impressed with the Gemini Lake CPU. Atom has moved along well since launch, IMO. In this BRIX, the J4105 is pretty much boosting at 2.4GHz the entire time. i5-7500 = 1446 (65W) J4105 = 580 (10W)

First build (gaming PC)- ryzen 5 2400G?

I think you’ll want to get a board you really like. It would be a pain to change that later. In my case, I make sure it has all the features I want—and I like mine to have WiFi built in just for flexibility. The cheapest boards are fine until you want to overclock or put a more demanding CPU in...

Anthem Gets NVIDIA DLSS and Highlights Support in Latest Update

Having a hardware activation limit is absurd. What PC gamer wants to buy a game knowing they might run into problems after doing some hardware upgrading or troubleshooting? Did they even think about the fact that it basically removes this game from all future hardware reviews? It will make the...

First build (gaming PC)- ryzen 5 2400G?

A dedicated card like the ones you mention will be much better than the GPU on the 2400G. The 570 is a good starting point. 120fps will be pushing it at 1080p high, but you were looking at 30-40 FPS with the 2400G, and that’s probably at 720p.
