    LGa 1366 mainboard

Gigabyte E58 UD5 I love mine. After a failed overclock it loads the setting which worked last time.. it doesn't just reset the whole BIOS. Saves a LOAD of time. 10 SATA ports, 6 RAM slots included. It's also well laid out and there are a TON of BIOS options

Core i7 920 Overclocking Help... Temp too high

65C.. are you kidding? That's a pretty low temp under full load to be honest. Have a look at this thread: http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=76464&page=221

[noobie alert] How to clean old paste off a CPU?

Yup, and like I said.. toilet paper is a bad idea.. it leaves TONS of fluff and fibres behind

TPU's Core i7 Overclocking and Feedback

I agree. I've never seen 100% utilisation for anything apart from stress testing. It does give the most extreme circumstances and the highest temps, but it isn't realistic at all. I know we do it as a failsafe.. if it can pass stress testing, it will be fine for day to day which is less...

[noobie alert] How to clean old paste off a CPU?

I have the exact same heatsink.. honestly it's fine standing up as long as you mounted it correctly

TPU's Core i7 Overclocking and Feedback

I did Prime95 overnight.. about 9 hours and it was totally fine edit: I also did Prime95 small FFT along with furmark for about 4 hours to generate maximum heat. That's basically 100% CPU usage on all cores + 100% GPU usage too.. way worse than any game, conversion or anything else would...

TPU's Core i7 Overclocking and Feedback

Hmm, pushing my o/c to 4250mhz at 1.2750v fails Prime95 after about 1hr Yet 4200 is totally stable. I'll probably not push it further at this point.. maybe just see if I can work on lowering the voltage further. I don't want to hurt my chip with high voltage and high temps.. it's already...

    RAID. Give me the facts.

I'm using RAID0 on my ex58 ud5 motherboard. Basically doubles the speed of a single HDD. File transfers sometimes break 200mb/s and games load way quicker. Obviously don't use it for long term storage. But I just use it for Windows, games etc. All documents go onto a separate drive

TPU's Core i7 Overclocking and Feedback

Is there actually any real benefit to this? I mean the RAM is astonishingly fast anyway, right? And the memory bandwidth is massive.. it's never going to be a bottleneck. For games, number crunching, movie converting etc.. does raising the ram from 1600mhz to 2000mhz really make any difference?

[noobie alert] How to clean old paste off a CPU?

You should preferably use something like filter paper that won't leave residue or small fibres on the CPU/heatsink Tissue paper, paper towels and cotton buds will all leave bits of fluff and fibres behind. If you want the best performance, both surfaces need to be totally clean - no residue...

TPU's Core i7 Overclocking and Feedback

Wow, I think I have a REALLY good chip! 4.2Ghz 100% stable running on CPUZ vcore of only 1.184v (set to 1.23750v in BIOS) HT enabled Turbo enabled All I did was increase blck to 200. I then set about decreasing the voltage. AUTO had it somewhere around ~1.4v but i've brought it all the way...

TPU's Core i7 Overclocking and Feedback

No I haven't totally made up my mind and to be honest, this is the first chip I've really overclocked. I'm happy with 4.1Ghz, but if I could get 4.2Ghz easily then I would do it. I do know what you mean about the money wasting though.. I see people all the time upgrading motherboard so they can...

TPU's Core i7 Overclocking and Feedback

To be honest yes I'm happy but I guess curiosity wants to know how far I can push the chip bat the end of the day almost nobody *needs* an i7, even at stock speeds. It's more of a hobby/enthusiast thing right? Most games are bottlenecked by GPU (definitely the case for my system) and there...

TPU's Core i7 Overclocking and Feedback

Hi all got my new i7 build: Gigabyte ex58 UD5 i7 920 D0 6gb patriot 1600mhz 750W PC Power & Cooling PSU <-- rest of details to the left it's currntly at 4.1, HT and turbo both enabled. I'm using. Pretty low voltage and CPU-Z shows it as 1.184v under load. Temps peak into mid 80s after a few...

How to orient CPU fan? Pics inside!

Hang on guys.. are some of you even reading what I wrote or looking at the pics? Unibrow: The air isn't hanging around the case with either possible config. Either direction the hot air is being pointed straight at a case fan. Littlelizard: Why on earth would I need to reverse the...

How to orient CPU fan? Pics inside!

Hi all, New i7 920 rig, oc'd at 4.00Ghz but temps under prime95 are creeping towards 90C, which I don't like. My case is a Coolermaster HAF, so adequate case cooling isn't a problem. The CPU cooler is a Titan Fenrir. Good cooler but it will only fit 3 out of 4 possible directions...

    X-Fi Support Syndicate & Owner's Clubhouse

Yup, though remember it's one AUDIO application at one time. So you can have firefox, office and VLC open at once. But if you have VLC open, you won't hear the sound on a youtube video on firefox until you close VLC etc etc Although hopefully this will all be sorted with a PROPER...

    X-Fi Support Syndicate & Owner's Clubhouse

That's good news. I can get basic play back functionality but there are some drawbacks: Microphone port doesn't work No ASIO, Crystalliser etc 5.1 sound doesn't work Can only have one audio application open at once - i.e. if I have firefox open with a youtube page I can't play an MP3 and...

    Fallout 3 : NEW TRAILER

That's what I hope too. I hope there's a compelling storyline with lots of good dialogue, subtle humour and a lot of depth etc etc. I hope the quests are interesting and different too.

    Final Fantasy 13 - on Xbox 360?

So you would rather buy a brand new, expensive console than get up off the couch to change discs once or twice? Makes perfect sense :banghead: Final Fantasy VII was an AMAZING game. I actually played it again recently and STILL enjoyed it. Sure the graphics are outdated but the story is...

    X-Fi Support Syndicate & Owner's Clubhouse

    [Review] Dream Linux

Is this your review? If so, nice job. But out of interest, and so I have something to compare to, how do you rate other popular distros that may be more "noob friendly"?
